Most detailed guidebook on Malta, with lots of practical, useful information for families, although the bus information could have been a little more through, considering that taxis in Malta are *outrageously* expensive and the Bus system is really excellent and cheap besides. The food picks were top notch, and the hotel information was okay too. This is good for both the backpackers and stuffed-wallet sets. If I only got one guidebook for Malta, this would be it.

Nice little guide for a short trip, well organized, but the "10" theme got a little forced at times. The Map is good, although a bit tiny. The hotels and seasonal info is a bit dated as well, but all in all for a relaxed short trip of four days or so, this is a great value guide as it hits the highlights and doesn't bog you down with detail. If you are staying longer and want more detail, then other guides are your better choice.

The pictures are excellent.

Rough Guides' "Malta & Gozo" is a very handy guidebook. Although it is only 192 pages and pretty light, it is packed with information. The thing that I like most about this book is that it contains detailed maps of all three Islands, Malta, Gozo and Comino, in addition to numerous city maps and plenty of both colour and black and white photos.

The main focus of "Malta & Gozo" is to provide the reader with detailed and up to date descriptions of the main attractions, restaurants and hotels in each community. As well, this guide contains a basic overview of practical information, relating to transportation, money, communication, festivals and language.

With no DK Eyewitness guide to Malta, this AAA guide handles good general explanations, decent maps, and lots of very good photographs. This guide before the trip will give you a good view of Malta. The maps in the back are fine for walking a few main areas, and the traveler's help section includes how much to tip and how to convert Maltese clothes sizes to European or U.S. sizes.
Once in country, this book teams up very well with the Rough Guide to Malta which is very detailed oriented but contains virtual no photographs. After looking over 5 or 6 Malta books, the two I took with me and used the most were the Rough Guide and the AAA Spiral Guide. This book by Lonely Planet is fine and thorough but comes in second to the other two. However, this book does have the most complete list of feast days (60 or more a year in Malata?).
