Lots of pictures in this book, but most are of the inside of the ryokans, tatami rooms, and scenery. Not a whole lot of pictures of the onsen's.

It's almost impossible to find one spot, even online, that tells you every place in the world where you can enjoy such delicious natural spring waters. In California, we are fortunate to have Desert Hot Springs so close by. The Europeans have enjoyed their benefits for eons. Italy even makes them available to all its citizens as part of their entitlement to good health. Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Germany, have many, even Mexico has. So many are listed here for us so that we Americans, too, can know from which to choose to go. This book is a rare treat.

As an avid travel reader and as the spouse of a Hungarian I was pleased to pick up this book. Ms. Brue has a wonderful writing style, both informative and with a wry wit that shines thru beautifully. Cathedrals of the Flesh is a great read. At the end, the author lists major baths from around the world and indeed this is what inspired me to pick it up *several baths in Budapest are listed*. I am assuming that the author did in fact visit the baths listed, but there is nothing in the book on public baths in Hungary. Considering the rather large chapter devoted to Russia, this is disappointing to say the least. I bought this book after I realized I had a desire to see and soak in as many hot springs as I can. Unfortunately I will be going to AZ in the summer and it will be too hot. The book is well written, informative and gives a beginner soaker all the necessary information that they will need to enjoy this experience including precautions and clear descriptions of the experience. I will be touring the only hot spring in the location this summer that will be close to my destination and that is OK to go during the summer. Without this book, I would not have known which springs would be insanity to go into during summer months.
