.National Geographic Driving Guide to America, Rockies (NG Driving Guides) City Travel Guides > Books > National Geographic Driving Guides by: National Geographic Society April 01, 1997 This is a good sightseeing guide that should help anyone who is interested in traveling the Rocky Mountain States by car. Arranged by state, the book highlights different attractions in each area. It also suggests driving loops, designed to hi-light the highlights while traveling a circular route along major highways. This is certainly designed well for someone who is unfamiliar with the area and wants a travel itinerary laid out with suggested sights and attractions. Accommodations or restraints are not listed, so one would have to look to another guide or the internet for those. .California : And Nevada and Hawaii (National Geographic's Driving Guides to America) City Travel Guides > Books > National Geographic Driving Guides by: Jr. Jerry Camarillo Dunn March 01, 1998 I bought this book after enjoying the excellent Guide to Texas and the Middle South from the same series. Unfortunately, the guides are all by different authors, and vary widely in the quality of their content. I've bought four of them so far, and this one is the worst of the bunch. The Texas book is a "Blue Highways" (i.e., off the beaten track) guide, and contains descriptions of fascinating places that you're not likely to find anywhere else. This one, on the other hand, is no better than those free tourist guides that you find on racks in pancake houses and cheap hotels. Mr. Dunn is both unimaginative and lazy, and this book suffers from it. The National Geographic generally does much better. They should own up to their mistake ... I read it with highlighter in hand, marking the sights that appealed to me, an approach I recommend to others. Mr. White appears to be an active bird-watcher (he apparently has written other books on that subject).
