This little booklet is a treasury of Star Trek lore ca. 1996. It includes topics ranging all the way from "The Original Series" (ST:TOS) to "Next Generation" and "Deep Space Nine" and even "Voyager" and the Gamma Quadrant. The graphics are excellent and the text is mostly entertaining. Unfortunately I already peeled off and mailed the two included postcards some years ago. Also, my interstellar travel privileges were revoked after a Federation customs agent on Vulcan saw the two passport stamps from the Rihannsu Star Empire. I tried to explain to him that they were fake, just part of the printing of the booklet, but he didn't believe me (a typical bureaucrat!). I skimmed through this one in a bookstore, trying to decide between it and Lonely Planet Code Green.

This one definitely seemed to have the advantage in terms of unique and diverse travel ideas. It's longer and fits more ideas into each page.

But it had only one page on ethical travel in the US. At least 65% of it was devoted to Africa and Asia. There must be some ethical travel opportunities that don't require an international flight.

If you're looking for unique ideas and can affford international travel, get this book. But it doesn't have much to offer nearby.

As a side note, the glossier Lonely Planet Code Green, though it has more ideas in the US, is also far from perfect (see my review of ... Read More:

I discovered this delightful book while seeking interesting anecdotes to enrich my seventh-grade history class. I found many in Nancy Day's entertaining book. Topics include: food, clothing, money, main attractions, celebrities, ettiquette, and "safety tips." I read a few passages to my students and they begged for more. It brought Renaissance Europe to life for them in an enjoyable format. Each page also includes at least one full-color illustration from the period's art and architecture.
