I consider myself an environmentalist, living off the grid, and in the past I have been clearly unwilling to consider anything with the word nuclear. Having read this book, Tom patiently, and with wit, clarifies options, costs, and consequences of this multifaceted issue in understandable, layman language. Thank you Tom. Seriously, if it were possible to be the first in our very rural northern california county to be able to build an IFR and produce huge amounts of clean, safe energy and be totally electric with not having to pay one more penny for gas/oil would make me the happiest person imaginable. I encourage everyone to read this book. It can save us, our children, and the planet.

I checked this book out of the library but we liked it so much, I am going to buy my own copy. Amazingly, my kids like to flip the book open for fun and then fantasize about going to the place they find! Better than watching Hannah Montana, that's for sure. We have a lot of places to visit now, though.

I'm planning a photographic trip to NC to do waterfalls. This book has more falls than I can possibly photograph. Book is well organized. Gives helps with travel, times to photography, best locations. It's all in this book. Hikers will also find it beneficial.

I had to read this book for an AP Biology course and it was absolutely amazing!!! The way that they describe these encounters is simply amazing. Great Book easy to follow it's a book that you just don't want to put down until you finish it. I give it 5 stars no doubt I highly recommend this book to all. One the greatest books i've ever read.

I found this book only really useful for mammals. I had to supplement this book for amphibians, reptiles, and especially for birds. I found it is really only good for 'popular species' of the non-mammals. If you are a casual naturalist and only want to bring one book, it is ok, but if you trying to really id a lot of organisms and add to your life-list, this isn't a great book.

I found this to be a really interesting book about an important, and I think, little known subject. I had heard a bit about world heritage sites but I wasn't really sure what they were. The book is very well-organized and easy to read. For each of the 100 sites presented, there is a small map to show us where it is located, as well as several photographs that both give a sense of the value of the location, as well as the threats it is facing. Because of all of the photos, it is a wonderful coffee table book that is not only interesting to look at but also has some substance. I received it as a gift and am planning to buy copies for friends.
