We've gone to "The World" for 3 years now in a row, this year will be #4, our 5th total. I've purchased this book for 6. In fact, I've purchased just about every 'help' book on WDW there is out there! Sehlinger & Testa put out the best, hands down....period. They're un-biased, independent, honest, and fair. As a single parent of two boys, I just don't have the time to spend the absolute hours/days it would take to gather the info and do the research these folks do for me with teams of 'professionals' gathered by the authors! What can I say? Awesome! I've read Frommer's Hawaii 2008. Frommer's is just a book telling you there is a beach here and there is a fall there. And I notice Frommer's involves A LOT of ads from activity companies who try to sell their activities to you. In contrary, Andrew Doughty's book offers you a really personal but neutual experience of every place in Hawaii. Because Doughty and his group actually been to every place and experience by themselives, you feel that each evaluation and comment he gave towards a sight or activity is solid and trust-worthy. Not to mention his fun-to-read style. I would say even if you just want to know about Hawaii not visit, the book is a fun to read. ABSOLUTELY!!!

and for me - Jon Krakauer's writing is the kind of stuff that makes for late nights and tired workdays. I can't pay him a higher compliment. This one was a bit different than his other efforts in that Krakuer plays more the role of detective/sociologist rather than an an insightful expedition biographer. However, the story was as rivetting and perhaps even more powerful. I'm anxiously awaiting his next one! I'd also recommend reading Georgiou's masterpiece-- THE FATES, Fates (classic) if you haven't yet. I stumbled upon it at a book store and can't stop talking about it. His writing style is very similar to Jon Krakauer

I thought this book was excellent and really helped make my trip to Kaua'i a great one. I followed the recommendations closely and was happy every time. It could be organized better. For example, the region overviews and the activities in each region are in separate sections of the book which made it hard to figure out where I read something to go back to it. Once I got used to the structure of the book, I was ok. Highly recommended.

It's a historical text book wrapped in a delightful tale of a "regular" kid from the 1950s. And I will say, funny, funny, funny. I was reading it on an airplane and I was laughing out loud almost to the point of my embarrassment. Bryson is very sharp. He supplements his childhood anecdotes with (sometimes shocking) historical facts. He successfully juxtaposes the good and the bad. Every time I turned the page, I wished America could return to a "simpler" time and then I'd turn another page and count my blessings that we have moved on. It made me long for the smell of grammar school coat closets and thank goodness we weren't all blown to pieces with a nuclear holocaust.

I compared it with three other guidebooks, and this one is hands down by far the best. I also like his sense of humor, and his ability to give us foreigners a realistic taste of the local culture. It is down to earth, not superficial, and it must have been a lot of work to write this guide! The first thing I did when I arrived in Oahu for the second segment of my trip was to go to the bookstore at the airport and buy his book for Oahu.

This is the second book I have by the author and like the first, I highly recommend it for travel to Oahu.

Very good recommendations that I found accurate and was pleased to make my decision process based on his recommendations, though not with every one of them was perfect. But that is to be expected since alot of decisions are subjective.

It is a good starting point and of course it is fun to go off book and ask around for opinions from people who live there for some other ideas.

Great at covering all of the details you need to know to plan your trip to Disney World. One of the best vacation guides I've ever read. Also great if you have kids since it covers each ride and gives rating based on scary factor, etc. so that if you have a 2 year old (like we did) you can get a sense of what may be too much for them or not.

"The House on First Street: My New Orleans Story" by Julia Reed is an enjoyable book--for the wonderful characterizations, for the bon vivant attitude of the writer and her crew, for the generosity of spirit during a catastrophe, for the genuine difficulties and joys in restoring an old house, and not least for incomparable settings in the incomparable city, New Orleans. This is definitely a book that merits a second reading.

Never having been to New York, this map was a really big help in navigating the City. It even helped before I left home by letting me see where my hotel was in relation to the places I wanted to see and how I would travel to see them.
