I read "Crash Proof" in one day yet I'm not an investor. I think the concern that Mr. Schiff is using his book to promote his company's line of investment products is a valid one. On another note, there is a glaring error on page 224 of the hard cover edition. He writes, "My favorite way to buy silver is just to buy junk silver ... minted before 1968. They [the coins] are 90 percent silver." Wrong. Only the coins minted before 1965 are 90 percent silver. A quick visit to any of the Junk Silver web sites will confirm it. I wonder if the book contains other errors?

Our team all went through this assessment and I have to say we were all impressed at how on target the assessments were; it does help to convey a solid message of personal development that we all should heed: know your strengths, focus on your strengths, leverage your strengths, develop your strengths!

The one piece of consistent feedback on the assessment? People wanted to see a relative ranking of the strengths. The list of five does not really offer a way to understand *how much* of a strength something is, so bear that in mind when reading over the results.

Stock findings aside, this book has good talent management strategies, including getting the right people on the bus and making sure everyone is going towards the same goal. Nothing revolutionary, but still helpful. I also found the monograph Good to Great and the Social Sectors: A Monograph to Accompany Good to Great helpful in the non profit arena.

I like this book because it sets out a clear point of view--that most of us have been neglecting a key component to business success: hiring in a rigorous manner. It then proceeds to offer a method for correcting this problem. I haven't yet tried the method itself, but I intend to. My preliminary reaction is that it makes intuitive sense, but that it's going to take a fair amount of time to implement successfully. The authors anticipate this response and argue that more time now saves an inordinate amount of time later. I'll add more once I've tried the method, but first response is positive.

Blame Malcolm Gladwell - but after Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking social psychologists of the type he featured in that book have been coming out of the woodwork to publish in the pop science market in alarming numbers figuring, reasonably, enough that there's a bit of money to be made on the side. I'm guessing royalties from articles in the International Journal of Psychology would pale in comparison.

One of the latest is Dan Ariely, whose unique selling point is a horrific accident he sustained as a student Israel which left him with burns to 70% of his body. When I first purchased this book, it was for the simple purpose of trying to educate myself more on the concepts of how the millionaires create their success. While I was not disappointed in any way with the context, what surprised me was that many of the fundamentals written about how to attain prosperity are spiritually based. Robert has done a great job in explaining the "negative reality" his biological father had, as compared to his more trusting and "expecting success" friend's father. this book is very confusing and hard to understand. It is written from a scientific point of view. I used an exam simulation program at pmsimulation.com and passed the PMP exam. This worked so much better than studying from a book.

I just finished this book today, and I absolutely loved it !!! I am actually buying more copies for my friends and family in sales, own their own business or have positive ambition :)

There are like 50 chapters with 3-5 pages each, kinda. It makes it easy to read a chapter or 2 at a time.

Pink starts with the inarguable premise that we live in a changing economy. The smokestack industries moved overseas long since, and white-collar jobs are fast following. Countries with low labor costs, compared to the West, have growing pools of highly skilled technical workers. As a result, things like programming, accounting, and circuit design have changed from specialty skills to commodity tasks, just as happened with material goods like toasters, toys, and sneakers. Pink declares that the new differentiators include aesthetics, design, and the human experience. His examples include car manufacture considered as an art form, holistic legal services, and the medical value of doctors' empathy.
