The Shock was that it didn't transform my belief or relationship with the Lord Jesus and Our Father in Heaven by His Holy Spirit.

The Shock was how far short it fell in expressing the incredible, infinite, sacrificial, jealous, passionate, robust God-sized love and devotion the Lord has for us and how He has poured out that love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit given to us so we can love Him back and others with that same gigantic genuine unconditional wholehearted love.

The Shock was that God already said He was to be described and known by humanity as Father, Son and Spirit (He, never It or She). God prefers to be known and revealed in masculine gender for His Own reasons. I respect that.

I've read a few of these reviews and I agree with many of them. On the one hand we've got the same silly thoughtless fun that we're used to. On the other hand.. we've got the *SAME* silly thoughtless fun that we're used to. Janet tried to introduce new characters but theyre drowned in the quirks that our staples are starting to be choked down in as well. It seems like rather than characters with depth (which one might expect after fourteen books in a series), we just have a jumble of quirks. Somewhat amusing, yes, but lacking substance.

I was happy to see the growth between Stephanie and Joe, and i hope to see more growth from other characters. I love Steph, Ranger, and Joe just as much as the next girl, but this is getting ridiculous. ... Read More:

I'm not a huge fan of political thrillers. I feel like the characters lack depth and the dialogue is mediocre. And while I did find some of that in this book, I was impressed with the story. It was lively, and very informative. I really enjoyed the history of Thomas Jefferson and radical Islam. I think it's about time that someone did a book on those themes. If you liked the Da Vinci Code, you will enjoy this book. Either way, it's apparent that Brad Thor did his research.

This is my first time reading one of Alan Furst's books and I am very impressed. "The Spies of Warsaw" is something that grabs you by the hand and takes on a ride through the world of espionage. I like the angle of the story: What if the French didn't concentrate their defenses on the Maginot Line?

Mr. Furst also draws very exact characters and every one had their personality shine. I also was impressed that every part is a buildup to the climax and I could feel the tension and the frustration. There is no fluff in this book. It has certainly made me decide to read his other books as well.

This is perhaps his best novel so far. Lots of twists and turns. It's one of the great ones you can't wait to get back to. Very current and very disturbing, in an area we should all get very disturber about.

Let me preface this by saying I am a huge Robert Crais fan; I have read all of his previous books, and with the exception of Demolition Angel, I thought they were all five star material. This is not five star material. It is more like a first draft; I felt like I was reading the outline not the book. There was no depth to the characters in this book, which R.C. usually provides in abundance. He tries to surprise us with the true identity of the villain, but I was only half surprised. In this case, I think he could have made the book more interesting by giving us a first person glimpse of the perpetrator(s), even if he wanted to keep the characters anonymous. After enjoying ten Lee Child/Jack Reacher books, I now find (see Amazon message board)that Childs has been faking it all along. This book is just plain boring, but worse yet Mr. Child has decided to tell us what he REALLY thinks, i.e. those of us who enjoyed and supported Jack Reacher are "chickenhawks" without the courage of our convictions.So far more than half of the Amazon reviewers have given "Nothing To Lose" 2 stars or less.
