The book is very solid and consistent - Friedman definitely makes his case as a true advocate of the upcoming green revolution.

As a side comment, somehow there is an element of balance that is lacking in the frameworks exposed. I feel that this is the case around the foreign policy side of the book which is more debatable.

As an example, when it comes to discuss the potential correlation of oil prices and power shifts, the author could explore more the "contrarian" view of the argument (rich oil regimes often collapse due to income disparity gaps that peak when energy bubbles are burst)... Yet Friedman could arrive safely to the same conclusion: resume global leadership.

The only thing that is true, and has been known in fact for a century, is that dramatic events cause change. On this I can agree with Ms. Klein, and only that.

Where this book careens off into left field, is by blaming this all on Milton Friedman and labelling it Friedmanism - all on the basis of a quote, and completely ignoring the history of the Nazis and the Kristallnacht, or the Marxists and the July Days in Russia. Milton Friedman made an observation (why certainly - he's Jewish, the people who suffered disproportionately from the effects of such kinds of propaganda under both regimes), but he surely did not invent the method. Blame the Marxists and the Nazis for perfecting that.

Everyone should read this well written book. It is highly enlightening! People need to wake up, get educated. We are so much like a bunch of dung beetles, keeping our noses to the ground and rolling, rolling the ball not really knowing anything more than our own little pile of dung! I am grateful to people like Dick Morris for putting in the time and effort to educate us all!

This is very much like Soros's other books: a mix of (his own) Philosophy in PART I, and its possible applicability to the Finance markets of the time in PART II.

If you like Taleb's mix of Philosophy and Finance in Fooled by Randomness: The Hidden Role of Chance in Life and in the Markets and The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable then you'll Soros's approach.

If you're looking to emulate Soros's success, this book doesn't tell you how to do this in concrete steps. The theory of reflexivity explains the nature of financial markets (the problem) but doesn't give a solution.

First, I'm an independent. I do have 3 decades experiences as a federal worker working government programs with exposure to our elected officials. I'm familiar with the capabilities and limitations on both sides of the aisle. This includes energy. Mr. Gingrich...tho well meaning shows a lack of understanding of the complexity of the issue.

He does provide an adequate overview though slanted toward his political view. The strength of his case is the increasing daily power of special interests...does he acknowledge those he follows and in his party?

Two points illustrate his limitations. First, he never addresses that 35% of oil is used for crucial non-transportation aspects. These range from agriculture to plastics plus hundreds of more vital applications. He could include financial ... Read More:
