I read "Crash Proof" in one day yet I'm not an investor. I think the concern that Mr. Schiff is using his book to promote his company's line of investment products is a valid one. On another note, there is a glaring error on page 224 of the hard cover edition. He writes, "My favorite way to buy silver is just to buy junk silver ... minted before 1968. They [the coins] are 90 percent silver." Wrong. Only the coins minted before 1965 are 90 percent silver. A quick visit to any of the Junk Silver web sites will confirm it. I wonder if the book contains other errors?

I like this book because it sets out a clear point of view--that most of us have been neglecting a key component to business success: hiring in a rigorous manner. It then proceeds to offer a method for correcting this problem. I haven't yet tried the method itself, but I intend to. My preliminary reaction is that it makes intuitive sense, but that it's going to take a fair amount of time to implement successfully. The authors anticipate this response and argue that more time now saves an inordinate amount of time later. I'll add more once I've tried the method, but first response is positive.

Probably the best management and personnel development tool around! Four staff members were each given a copy to read and to follow the instructions for getting an analysis. Each was asked to bring the analysis for their annual job review. They expected the typical "this is good and that is bad" comments but found that when they reviewed their positive traits they were asked "how can you apply that in your job?" Ar real morale and performance builder.

Great story about a true American business icon. One who still is working and a living legend in the business and philanthropic scene. Comprehensive view of his life, his comebacks, his views, etc. The "Boonisms" are priceless.

When you read a book like this, you are hoping to learn about the back story about an issue, the inside scoop. The only useful insights I received from this book are that the influence of the IMF and the Fed are dipping due to globlization. Other than that, the author spends a lot of time trying to convince us that the balance of power in the financal system is shifting from the US and Europe to the "expanding economy."

Many years ago when I was a McKinsey consultant, Paul Volcker gave a talk to the staff about how the accumulation of dollars in the middle eastern countries would lead them to unprecedented power over our economy, and possibly our ruin. The controversy around the Laffer curve is made by those who do not understand the fundamentals of economics: people respond to the incentives. Ask yourself this simple and easy question, would you work hard (or at all) if someone took out of your wallet $4 for every $10 yo earned? What about $5, $6 or more? The fact of the matter is the top 1% of income earners pay 40% of the taxes collect while the bottom 50% pay 3%.
