This is a good book for an overview of the mortgage banking operation. However, any such book that fails to mention Rangel, Franks, or Dodd is lacking the substance required for full comprehension.

I cracked this book open with the hopes of getting an insider's view of how corporate manipulation of international loans works. Unfortunately, Perkins reveals little except his takeaway from the experience. The overall feeling of the book was not that he wants to educate us on the machine and how it works but rather issue a mea culpa. It's long on feelings and short on detail. I was looking for something more well researched and detailed like "Blackwater" by Scahill which gives a deep account on how corporate players make money from war and the US government. Unfortunately, Perkins was only able to vaguely confirm what I know to be true, leaving me searching the book racks for someone who can explain the nitty gritty to me. I got this hoping to learn a lot about our national debt problem: what exactly it means, how big the problems are, what the causes are, etc. This book has almost nothing of that: whatever discussion there is of actual facts is just meant to make the reader understand this is a big problem--something anyone who buys this book already knows. That is to say, this book is very lacking in statistics and study of what they mean.
The book is arranged in two sections: the first part is the informative section, and the other half is a collection of interviews with supposed experts. Several years ago, virtually alone, Panzner predicted (in great detail) exactly what has now actually come to pass over the last few years, and---perhaps much more importantly, he warned us exactly what is coming in the near future.

Several years ago, he was regarded as being "an alarmist"; now, we recognize that he was (and is) a PROPHET!

I believe we all should read this book very carefully, and use it to plan for our families' futures. Buy copies of this for your friends---they'll soon be very grateful that you did.

I don't have time to write a long review about a book, and I assume neither do you to read it. So I keep it simple and to the point:

I have read several books about day trading and this is one of the best by far. It explains in detail what to do and not to do when you attempt to trade stocks as a beginner. It will stop you from losing money and save you a lot of headaches. Make sure to read it twice!!
This book is an excellent guide to anyone new to this field, even if you don't know the technical terms. It is not boring either... I wish it had been longer..

I read. A lot. That said, only half this book is worth the time and energy it took me to read it. The middle half, to be specific. The first few chapters are dedicated to Sachs detailing to us that, no, he's not an idiot writing about something he's had no experience with and that, yes, he can help to solve macroeconomic problems. The end chapters are all Sachs recapping what he said in the rest of the book with charts and graphs that start to become meaningless if you're not a economist or a student with a couple econ classes under your belt. The middle, in my opinion, is the only redeeming part of this book that mentions far too often big-names Sachs has met and important jobs he's held. The middle actually talks about his plan for ending extreme poverty by 2015 and how we can do it. The rest ... Read More:
