I read this very interesting book a couple of months ago and was surprised to see it climbing the charts again. The topic is certainly timely and much needed however...

While I agree with the Lion's share of the advice (and the author is more competent in these matters than I) contained therein, I struggle with accepting his advice in precious metals and foreign markets. As I believe, the foreign markets still reflect the good `ole USA at this time, I just cannot trust them. In addition, gold is too volatile for my needs at the age of 52. Of course, the book speaks loudly about age and options.

This book must be flying off the shelves at Amazon's warehouses, and for good reason. It is a welcome diversion to the anger-fear-nausea that has churned within me over the past few weeks and months. This hot-off-the-presses book can guide me in constructive thought and planning.

Will we have deflation or inflation? Schiff believes it will be deflation for big-ticket items typically purchased with debt (dwellings, education); for everything else there will be inflation. The reader should study this book, analyze his reasoning behind his recommendations, and evaluate how (or whether) to apply his strategy. As for me, his words sound spot-on, but I wonder if global markets are sufficiently decoupled for his advice (get out of $US) to be effective ... Read More:

Graham's approach is aimed at minimizing the odds of irreversible losses and maximizing the chances of sustainable gains. (Many dot-com and telecom stocks lost 95% of their value by the end of 2002, requiring a 1,900% gain to get it back. That illustrates why Graham constantly emphasizes the importance of avoiding losses.) Unfortunately, Graham died over 30 years ago, and thus his material and examples are dated; the good news is that Jason Zweig provides an update for each chapter.

When I first purchased this book, it was for the simple purpose of trying to educate myself more on the concepts of how the millionaires create their success. While I was not disappointed in any way with the context, what surprised me was that many of the fundamentals written about how to attain prosperity are spiritually based. Robert has done a great job in explaining the "negative reality" his biological father had, as compared to his more trusting and "expecting success" friend's father. and there is good reason for it. This is the book that can make you wealthy. The added essays for this edition are fabulous and well worth many times the price of the book.
More than technique value investing is an attitude and a logical thinking pattern. Benjamin Graham was so well rounded (Greek, English and Math majors at Columbia) in his background that he could write a book that is full of ever-lasting principles. (There is even a discussion about the dangers of investing in low-quality mortgages and how they could be packaged to look enticing - how's that for something written almost 70 years ago?)
If you are a serious investor, you'll want to read this book.

This new world order of financial chaos scares me to death. It is certainly not about me personally but rather my family and what I will leave behind for them.

I bought Mohamed El-Erian's book around the same time I bought Crash Proof: How to Profit From the Coming Economic Collapse (Lynn Sonberg Books). I found both of them to contain very valuable (and timely) advice, which helped, calm some of my fears and anxiety. With that said, I would have to rank Mr. El-Erian's book a little higher than Crash Proof.

This book was so inspirational and superb it may have changed my life. It changed my perspective on things and it was so funny and enlightening it in a way contributed to helping me go from a Junior Manager in a Fortune 500 company to Head of Division with responsibility over 15 countries in an International Fortune 500 Company...a must read for any MBA or graduate diving into the corporate rat race and wanting to know - is anything possible? the answer is yes. Depends how you do it...A great read. Thanks!
