. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
City Travel Guides > Books > Reference
by: Stephen R. Covey
November 09, 2004
I really enjoyed reading "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen R Covey. Covey starts with the premise everyone is born with these traits and one has to practice and cultivate them.
My favorite chapter is "WIN/WIN". Covey's premise is there are 6 paradigms of humans interaction and that WIN/WIN is not a technique it is a philosophy of human interaction. Relationships can be mutually beneficial, everybody wins! "It is not my way or your way but a better way, a higher way." This chapter reminds me of the "Golden Rule" (Do unto others what you would like them to do to you) which I was taught as a child.
Another book I really enjoyed was Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment by award winning authors ... Read More:

. Kaplan GMAT Premier Program, 2009 (Book & CD-ROM)
City Travel Guides > Books > Reference
by: Kaplan
June 03, 2008
The primary reason I bought this guide over the others was for the computer adaptive practice tests included on the cd-rom.
On my first practice GMAT, I found that a few of the explanations of the math problems used information not presented in the questions.
On my second practice GMAT, I found that it was recycling questions from the first practice exam. On the verbal section it gave me too many reading passages. On the math section I kept getting hard questions, depite a streak of several wrong answers.
I also found the editing in the math section to be very sloppy, and thus confusing to read.

. Disrupting Class: How Disruptive Innovation Will Change the Way the World Learns
City Travel Guides > Books > Reference
by: Clayton M. Christensen, Curtis W. Johnson, Michael B. Horn
May 14, 2008
Any prospective reader of this book should first read Hubbard's How to Measure Anything: Finding the Value of "Intangibles" in Business (for that matter, Christensen would have written a better book if he read Hubbard, too). Christensen rightly disputes some academic measurements, but too quickly dismisses better methods.
Apart from what he could have done better on the measurement issue, he makes a passionate case for getting out of the rut education finds itself in. Some of the recommendations might strike a business person or educator as a little impractical, but I think there is an interesting opportunity in every solution he proposes. True, there is a large genre of books about the need for change in education, but few take this angle. No educator's ... Read More:

. Cases and Materials on Business Associations: Agency, Partnerships, and Corporations (6th Edition)
City Travel Guides > Books > Reference
by: William A. Klein, J. Mark Ramseyer, Stephen M. Bainbridge
June 30, 2006
I was unimpressed with this book. Many in my class struggled because of the way the book was thrown together.
My main problems are the lack of explanation for key concepts, other than a reference to a cut-down case and the questionable decision to use cases that don't clearly explain the issue at hand.
I was thrown off at first when I couldn't find some of the cases in Lexis or WestLaw. Rather than relying on an on-topic US SC case or even a Fed circuit case, some key concepts get examples that are unpublished lower-court decisions where the judge makes either the wrong decision or the right decision for the wrong rulings. The book does not point out the error of the court when it does this. Most of the time this happened, my professor would point out that we should ... Read More:
