Seriously, the pages and pages of abuse were soooo not necessary - a few chapters would have been enough but almost 400 pages? With all his regal bearing (even with abuse and neglect) the second part where he lamely falls in love the minute he sees Tori? Come on, with all his history how could you expect us to believe it would be that easy! But it doesn't matter what is the "genre" that readers or publisher designate a book; if it is well written, I'll enjoy it. When I read the synopsis, I thought the blend of "fish out of water" and a smart heroine who rescues him was an interesting premise. Julian, the "fish out of water", son of Aphrodite, should have been the ideal hero. He was in FACT a hero, a general, a warrior. He had been cursed for centuries to be trapped in a scroll alive, listening, waiting, starving until someone conjures him out to sexually satisfy a woman for 1 month and then be trapped back into the scroll until the next woman calls on his services. Ward March 07, 2006 Rhage has always been the sexiest of the brothers for me, and Ward has written a very good second book, further developing her back story and cleverly laying the groundwork for future books (John/Darius, Zsadist, etc.). However, I was just a bit disappointed at the ending. *** SPOILER BELOW -- DO NOT READ ON IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW! *** Since I think Rhage is simply sex on legs, my pleasure at finishing the book was dimmed by learning that he would never be producing any baby vampires due to Mary's illness. .No Rest for the Wicked (The Immortals After Dark, Book 2) City Travel Guides > Books > Gothic by: Kresley Cole October 31, 2006 I found the book to be OK, not outstanding. Too much of the contest for me. My main reason for reading paranormal romances is the couple involved. I wanted more between them. I found myself skipping over some of the contest travels to get to the romance interaction. I've started Book 3 and it seems I'm liking that one better already. It may just be because I'm deeper into the world Ms.Cole has created. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I enjoy Christine Feehan (my favorite) and the first books by J.R. Ward's Dark Series. A hunger Like No Other is still my favorite but this one was was better than the previous No Rest For The Wicked. I usually stay away from books where the main hero is brooding over his killed lover,I like the whole ur the only one for me kind of thing, but I decided to take a chance because come on, its kresley cole we are talking about here, the girl is talented! I am really glad I did, I can't believe how well she tied up the whole two mates question at the end, i had no idea it would turn out like that and it totally made up for the stupid things that he did to Mari. These books are the best paranormal romance novels I've ever read...and I've read a lot of romance novels! I've spent so long looking for a series like this. I read the second novel first, because that was all they had available in the bookstores at the time. I was testing out the series anyway, so I didn't care if I read them out of order.
