This may very well be one of the most important books I have read this year ... or the past few years.

I purchased "Last Child in the Woods" right after I heard Richard Louv interviewed on a local radio program. I was so moved by his message and impressed with the breadth of his knowledge and depth of experience. And it all translates well in the book.

"Last Child..." feels more like a conversation than a text(book). It's just that comfortable and open. Yet it very strikingly paints a picture of what is currently happening to children and our world as well as what may yet happen if nothing is done to reverse "nature deficit disorder". This is a very well written book that is easy to read and understand by the average person that is not educated in weather. This book gives facts about weather and related subjects by informed professionals that don't have a political agenda and want to know the truth.

Wow!! What a terrific book . . . the text, the sounds, the selection of species, the layout . . . everything works perfectly together. And, the Western book is just as impressive as its eastern companion.

I opened my pre-release copy, intending to spend just a few minutes and return to it later. Two hours went by, and I was still reading and listening; I couldn't stop turning the pages.

Of course, I went right to my favorite birds, reading the text and pushing the buttons to listen, as I expect that most people will do. But then I settled in and went to other species, and then I read the introductory pages. The information there will bring you to a whole new level of enjoying these remarkable creatures.

Dr. Wright's text has really become a classic of the environmental science field for good reason: it elucidates the basic principles of environmental science with depth and readability. This tome is not in its 10th edition because it lacks merit. On the contrary, this text presents the relevant topics in a more organized and rigorous manner than any other on the shelf. Students gain a fundamental grounding in the topics and issues of this emerging field, no mean task considering their great breadth.

I received this book as a gift a few years ago, and since then, I have given 4 of them as gifts to my bird-loving friends! I also shared it with a friend who just turned 3 years old. She enjoyed learning the names of the birds and the sounds they make. I have learned to identify birds by their sounds, without even seeing them!

This book will change the way you look at your impact on the world. Whether you consider the environment to be an important issue or not, it is well worth your time to read this short yet powerful book. The world is changing, fast, and it is becoming impossible to reasonably deny that fact. This book is first-rate. I tend to favor wildlife books that depict their subjects in paintings and drawings, rather than photos, and this book is rich in mini-masterpieces. I haven't yet gotten into bird-watching, but the book transcends those who use this as a field guide. Now I can sit in the comfort of my den and enjoy all the glory of Nature's bird treasures. Whether one likes to explore on-foot, or by flipping pages in a book, this is one volume in which you can't go wrong!!

This text is an excellent resource for an Introductory Meteorology course. Each chapter and topic built upon learning from the previous chapters and topics. This text not only covered detailed information about all meteorological topics, but also contained current event information from the past decade, news clippings, and common questions that may confuse students. The animations and extras included on the additional CD provided an added resource for further learning.

I have deep respect for the life and schievements of Roger Tory Peterson. His impact on ornithology, ecology, avian medicine, wildlife art and birdwatching have too often been underestimated.

The latest edition of the guide melds East and West and does a great deal to upgrade coverage of Western species through enlarged maps and improved renderings.

My problem with these guides has been perennially their occasionally inaccurate renderings of particular common species -- the Barred Owl is one good example -- which might prohibit the orthodox guide-reader to err in a sighting.
