I highly recommend this book. This author provides great history along with useful information in enjoying the park. There is a logical division of areas within the park and she references you to the next map(location) at the end of each discussion. It is an easy to use reference. She gives information about the surrounding towns and immediate areas outside of each park entrance which decreases the need for additional guide books. I highly recommend this book.

I bought Mammals field guide 4th ed. to upgrade from my 3rd. ed. The 4th ed. has 80 plates while the 3rd ed. has only 32 plates. The 4th ed. also has much more text under individual species and genera descriptions. With having more plates and text the 4th ed. is about three times the weight of the previous 3rd ed. The increase of weight makes The Field Guide to Mammals 4th ed. impractical for use in the field. Which is why I give this book 4.5 stars.

I was expecting a bit more from this book! The reviews I read before purchasing this book all raved about how "complete" and "up to date" it was! It's obvious that the people responsible for those reviews don't have much experience in the Gemstone world! First off, the print in this book is FAR too small. The information is very crammed and the author barely brushes the surface when describing individual gemstones. There are also far too many gemstones left out of this book. Gemstone pictures represent about half of the book and are also very incomplete! If this book were larger (larger font), it would be far less crammed and much easier to read. I don't know why the individuals who gave 5 stars, did so. The most beautiful, striking part of this book is the photographs. They're great!! hands down. However the narration on each animal just follows 8 basic formatted questions, Range, Size, offspring, Etc.; definitely necessary info but it's very shallow to stop there. Besides a few scattered phrases there is very minimal specific,unique info regarding an individual mammal that any animal lover would've expected to find even some basic stuff! The narration is definitely overly general and vague. THEY created a template and just filled it in. I expected alot more. I see that there are other books that have much more info but pictures? Great book with lots of pictures of species. I hoped that there would be photos for EACH species of fish but there was not. Each fish is documented though even if there is no picture for each. Many species are shown. I still have to give it 5 stars. This book is a great size too. It is not oversized. Perfect for travel.

I would imagine that most visitors to the Galapaos are not naturalists. For those without a strong background in natural sciences, I would highly recommend this book. The book is easy and fun to read, detailed without being tedious. The photos are amazing and the author's passion for the islands is evident. If you only have time to read one book, this is one I would advise a Galapagos visitor to read in advance of their trip.

This is a great field guide. Though some would like full color illustrations, variablility in coloration occurs quite often in fish depending on habitat and other factors. The text descriptions are quite clear. The only complaint I have, is the binding isn't very sturdy. I'm on my 4th copy! My field guides go into the field (or in this case on the boat)where the elements will take their toll very quickly on poorly constructed material.

this book was recommended to me as a beginner backyard bird watcher. the drawings are so accurate it is easy to identify the birds quickly. enjoying it and the birds that visit. highly recommend.
