I purchase, Wesley the Owl, initially for my 12 year old who has a tremendous interest in becoming a zoologist or biologist. He was finishing up one of his other books so I read, Wesley the Owl, first. It is a fascinating account of the life of a barn owl. The behaviors, love and loyalty toward his young caretaker are remarkable and I couldn't put

The race to the North and South Poles ended in the early 1900's, Africa and South America were explored by the 1930's, leaving the Himalayan Mountains as the last challenge for adventure. Mr. Isserman and Mr. Weaver has written a comprehensive history of the conquests of the world's highest peaks. Starting from the competitive nationalist expeditions of this century to the solo attempts of today, the book is clearly written and well-researched, with over 100 pages of documentation and notes. The reader can read as a follow-up Maurice Herzog's "Annapurna" (1952), an epic tale of the French harrowing attempt to be the first to conquest a Himalayan peak.

I bought this for my g'daughter's 11th birthday. At first she was busy playing with toys she rec'd that day, but then realized later that evening that the book is full of fun things to do, new things to try, and facts that realy interest girls her age. The next day she spent an hour trying to perfect the karate moves illustrated in the book.

It's a great way to stimulate a girl's mind while also getting her to try things she might otherwise be timid about.

I bought the Dangerous Book for Boys, too, but won't give it to my g'son until his birthday in a few weeks.

Excellent book, different from the beaten path. I could not put it down.
I could relate from the experiences of panicking and letting your emotions out of control, it is deadly because in a survival situation you spend all your energy that way. I learned a lot on how humans behave, and what keeps you alive, and in the end what kicks in to help you until help comes!

This guy is a looser! I applaud him for "attempting" the AT trail, but come on! He did not do even half of it. This book is for people who will never venture down a trail of any kind! I have done my fair share of mountaineering and hiking; I would never fathom writing about my failed attempt to "walk" a trail. If I was getting paid to "hike" something like the AT trail, I sure in the hell would finish it.

The only funny part for me was Mary Ellen! The more I read the more I agree with her opinion. She met the guy? As far as Kat, I like this guy. He seems to be a good guy that went out of his element to try something new!

Conclusion: Publisher should get their money back, Bill should have to go walk the whole trail over start to finish ... Read More:

This book is great. It tells you basic needs for survival like how to find water, make shelter and purify water. It is just a great book. If you frequently travel to different places like jungles or forests and you want to know how to survive in the wild if you get lost, this is a good book to get.

Survival is a skill, and one you need to work on, you can have all the books in the world but unless your actually go out and try these things it's nothing but a collection of paper.

that being said this is an excellent source of information that you can use to attempt trapping food (Please check that it's legal in your area and remember where you placed all your traps as well as make sure you take them down after you have proven they work.) making camps and fire, cooking and eating and so forth.

hopefully you will never NEED This book, but if you do i hope you made the right choice and bought it.
