It's too bad that Amazon doesn't include reviews for previous editions of textbooks. The previous editions of this book had forty-two total reviews, and they average out to 4.5 stars. Unfortunately, this edition's rating is skewed by some students who appear to attributing their poor grade to the book.

I'm a fan of these authors. If you look at a previous edition of Computer Networking you'll see just how great this book's reviews are.

This book is presented in novel format where huge paragraphs dominate.
People don't mentally store information in paragraph format; they store it in bullets or chunks of data so you first have to read the paragraph, then deduce the bullets for mental storage. It's weird but I think most books are written like this.

There are endless stories about security using sometimes inappropriate metaphors for security which don't always equate to the technology at hand.

Also, the chapters aren't laid out in the 10 Domains covered by the CISSP exam so you have to jump around to go through the domains.

This was a required textbook for one of my courses, so I started out by borrowing a copy from the library, but I liked the book so much, that I ended up buying it.

This book gives an excellent insight into the design decisions that went into original TCP/IP design, the subsequent problems and the changes that were made to counter those. The problem set after each chapter is interesting and rigorous.

One downside, though, is that it does not focus so much on the application layer of TCP/IP model.

A good book for learning about Windows Server 2008!

It is reasonably easy to read and presents topics in an understandable format. As with any book, it is impossible to ask questions or get a subject presented differently.

As a professional trainer (Microsoft certified), I warn students that no one source of information will cover all the material that Microsoft tests you on. This book is no exception. The Quick Check questions and end of Lesson questions are very week compared to what Microsoft will test you on. The CD with practice exams was not available, so I cannot comment on the level of questions present. From past experience, the CD's practice questions are equally week.

This book is officially approved courseware for the CompTIA Network+ exam. It has been approved also by the CSSIA (Center for Systems Security and Information Assurance). The book is very comprehensive. But as all textbooks go it has both strengths and weaknesses. In this review I will try to highlight some of both.

Like most computer industry books, this one comes with a supplemental CD. That CD includes the Certblaster and MeasureUP self-test software and other files the student will find useful.

I bought and read this book while I was waiting for my new Dell XPS to arrive, and I thank my lucky stars every day since that I did. When my computer was installed, I already knew where everything was so I just fell into it with no problem whatsoever. I've told a lot of my friends, if you're thinking of getting Vista, do two things. Get your computer made with a LOT of ram, no less than three gigs, a good sound card, a good video card, big hard drive, and READ THIS BOOK FIRST before you ever open the computer. It'll save you a lot of angst over VISTA. I'm sure most of the problems people report having with it are because they went into it without any real preparation beforehand. I have worked with Action Script in the past on many projects but I never took advantage of the real programming capabilities that Action Script 3 has to offers, so I wanted to find a book to help me take the next step and this is the one. I got this book and I was immediately hooked because it was written in a way that makes you feel comfortable and relaxed instead of intimidated.

This book offers simple easy to understand tutorials accompanied with the basic start files already designed so that you can focus on the programming.

I just read first few chapters of this book. Good news is that the material is expressed in an accessible manner. However if you have an interest in programming languages and trying to read this book as JavaScript language tutorial or reference things like "lambda functions" (should be "lambda expressions"), or discussions about how (in authors view) JS interreter "inserts semicolums" (it does not. whitespace is used as token separator while parsing) make it look pretty bad.
