As an OpenGL starter, someone recommended this book to me. I would not, however, recommend it to someone who is a beginner in OpenGL. This is one of those texts that start with a really long discussion about the theory, and then teach the applications at the end. They could have mixed the math stuff along with using the API instead of going through all these math explanations first. In the end, you have already forgotten about the math stuff anyway. They could have also just focused on the differences between ES and the desktop version and leave the theory stuff to other books.

I borrowed this book's first version and liked it very much. Since I can't find the first version anywhere, I have to buy this new version. I wanted to buy at Amazon in order to save my time driving to bookstore, plus it is cheaper here. I was worried if this book has the sections I need which were in first version. This --Search inside this book-- is superb!! At first, I did not realize it has the whole "contents" list. Then I realized if I click on "next", it will show you the complete "contents". I saw the chapter that I need and ready to buy it. Very happy with this feature--Search inside this book. There is no doubt this book is superb for QA engineer.

I borrowed this book's first version and liked it very much. Since I can't find the first version anywhere, I have to buy this new version. I was cheated by the looking of preface. However there are too many graphics with a little explanations. How can you understand programming language like that? I do not recommand anyone to buy this book.

I really hate Netbeans, but in spite of that fact, and the fact that this book makes heavy use of the technology, I dug into the book. I have a real interest in learning about the development of Java programs on cell phones past the writing of small local applications and games, and this book seemed to fit the bill. I'm the happy owner of many of the author's past books, and this one didn't disappoint me either. At first glance parts of the book look rather sparse. That is because, for one, Knudsen doesn't see the point in just regurgitating the standard. The second reason is that much of the source code is on the book's accompanying website. This might have been a great book... three years ago but now it is woefully out of date. I got the book for help with my Verizon mobile phone but found that throughout the book in trying to cover both pocket PCs and phones it did neither well. As an example, the note on page 287 regarding using Word Mobile states "Word Mobile s not available on Smartphones..." Odd... it seems to be there on my Smartphone and seems to work!
