There is probably not a whole lot to say about this book that has not been said already, but it certainly deserves another positive review nonetheless.

I bought this book thinking that I did not have a whole lot to learn from it. I was certain I had read enough 'better coding' material in the past to know what good code was and how to produce it. I am sure you will not be surprised when I say that I ended up having a great deal to learn from this book.

Almost all of the coding advice, design strategies, and debugging techniques are backed up with real research data. At the very least, this means that even if you know the advice is sound already, you can more easily introduce the topic to other programmers, or even ... Read More:

I highly recommend this book. I also purchased the PMBOK, but only got about halfway through. Crowe's book broke it all down for me. I read the book once, did all of the questions in the book, and did the free trial on the Velociteach website. Additionally I borrowed Rita Mulcahy's book from a co-worker and did all of the end-of-chapter questions. I was kind of freaked out because I didn't do well on her questions, but when I reviewed what I got wrong, I usually didn't agree with her explanations. Anyway, Crowe's book is great and the online content was good too (just know that a lot of the questions are re-used).

I have read this book twice now. Once in college and once again now 5 years later. While I did not get much out of it 5 years ago, now that I have been in the industry a few years, it is a VERY good re-read.

I pretty much passed the test by just working through the 600 pages of this book. It uses pictures, quizzes, crosswords and games to help you get the basic concepts and necessary formulas down.

You'll go comatose if you try to tread the PMBOK itself and go blind while reading the Mulcahy prep book.

I would use this book, do extra sample questions and look up answers that you get wrong know. About 20 hours of studying

Much of this book is spent explaining what should be obvious to the best managers, but which corporate culture and priorities tend to work against. In general, the book looks more at typical mistakes than at recipes for success. At the same time, the advice is solid and they often provide data to back up their assertions.

If I was a manager at a typical and mediocre corporation, I would not recommend this book too much-- it is hell fighting against corporate culture. However if you work for the best or you are starting a business and want to be the best, this book is extremely important. (If you are a manager working at a mediocre corporation, start your own business or get hired by a better company after you read this book!)

I passed the test late 2006. This software was great. It prepared me because it is almost a duplicate of the actual test. I was extremely confortable taking the actual test since I prepared with this software. I recommend it greatly....But it is not the test questions that help you pass, its only the familiarity of actual test. The software will not make you smarter, it provides you clarity into your progression as in if you have a shot to pass the test. You will need to study the material first.
