I love anything written by Barbara Kingsolver. She has a way with words that is amazing to me.
This is the first nonfiction I've read from her, and I love it. It was a perfect choice for me since I have lately been interested in starting my own garden, and eating locally and organically as often as possible.
Even though I agree with most of what she and her family are saying, she can be a little preachy about how the world is wrong to live the way its been living. However, she makes up for it in many ways. She has great stories about neighbors and friends making the same efforts to live locally that really help me feel better about the Earth. This book is 5 stars all the way. Lew French shows his masterful stonework in the many photos this book provides. If you are interested in what can be done in stone and how stone can be used to create a "WOW FACTOR", this book is made to order.
Every other page has photos that are "WOW".

I purchased this product after viewing a collection of Cesar's dvd's. They don't provide "How to..." for training a dog to do "Things"(sit, down, etc.) but they are very insightful in understanding how to have a good relationship with your pet as dog and master. The book has helped us get off to a good start with our new puppy.

My friends are amazed that I can walk into the room of my sleeping 7 month old and put up his clothes and he never wakes up. This is because we set him up on the right foundation from the beginning. Every mom and dad should read this book and realize the potential that even a 6-7 week old baby has regarding there sleep habits.
This is now the only gift that I give to mom's at baby showers and if anyone ever ask for any ideas on sleepy I refer them to this book. Thank you Mrs. Pantley for sharing such wonderful tips and ideas and making me realize that I am doing the best possible job that I can. BZ of AL

My nine year old twin girls love the book. Sure, they have no interest in hunting rabbits (they're vegetarians) or famous battles in history (at least not yet), but there's a lot in here for any kid who is not on too tight of a parental leash. Get this and the girls' book too. A lot of worthwhile bits in each.

There is nothing new in Milan's training methods. He has just rehashed the outdated stuff of the '80s and earlier. Truly modern dog training seeks to form a relationship between dog and human, one based on mutual respect.

Yes, one can get results with his methods, but response based on fear is shallow and fleeting at best. That is, unless one keeps the poor dog terrorized. He appeals to people because of his emphasis on human dominance over dogs. There are dozens--make that hundreds--of trainers with more worthwhile advice to offer. I suggest that the person who wants a friend and companion instead of a cringing syncophant listen to them.

I really enjoyed this book. It reminded me of the antics of my own puppy. The book centers around a dog but it's really about a family. This book is filled with love and has really helped me get through the last very stressful week. I was laughing out loud at some parts.

I bought this book because I wanted some information on gardening intensively in raised beds. The best things about the book are the plant spacing guides and the timing charts in the back that help you know when to plant what, according to your frost dates. These are absolutely essential for the first time gardener, and I've referred to them many times. Aside for that, I don't care for Mel's writing style. He somehow comes off as pompous and condescending: "If you don't do __ , you don't have a square foot garden!" I don't care if I don't have a square foot garden, as Mel has defined it. I deviated from Mel's soil mix by purchasing landscape soil from a local company. My mix is 20% topsoil, 50-60% leaf compost, and the rest is sand. I also went 12 inches deep with the soil. ...
