This is a general warning before reading the review: This book is VERY odd, so if you don't like oddball humor, go find another book.

The book's flap shows you how funny it is, as she gets angry with you for not purchasing the book. And there it begins.
The layout is very old-fashioned. The chapters are spread out with many photos and crudely drawn images. Usually these images make you chuckle. The whole book is in full-color, so no guessing as to what color such-and-such is.

I never really time myself when I cook but this book is great. You don't have to follow it word for word. The recipes are delicious and precise. I am now cooking roasted chicken breast and pan seared salmon for dinner... can't wait to try more. Great time saving methods.

Everything that I have made is great and easy. I especially love the spaghetti pie, cookies with M & Ms, grilled porkchops and spinach salad with warm bacon dressing. The only recipe that did not turn out well is the pink lemonade cake. This is a great cookbook for entertaining!

I purchased this book at Costco primarily because the price was attractive and I am a fan of Cook's Illustrated; but, I did not necessarily have huge expectations. How wrong I was! I turn to this book again and again for recipes that are healthy and delicious. The turkey burgers are absolutely wonderful, the chicken with pan sauces make me appear to be a much better chef than I am and the the chicken with vegetables in papillote is my new weekly favorite. While the recipes may be intimidating at first due to the lengthy directions and descriptions, they are easily mastered. I am always struggling to find week night food that is healthy, good, easily prepared and most of all, popular with the finicky husband and children and this book definitely fits the ... Read More:

Apparently I am the only reader who found parts of this book DEEPLY offensive. The author practically swoons over those fabulously fortunate [white] folks who owned plantations. I think we all know who provided the labor force on said plantations. Thus nostalgia for slavery is pretty much undisguised. I quit reading and returned the book to the library at this point. I'm white, but I hate to think what an African-American would experience reading portions of this "humor" book. I'd give it zero stars or, if it were possible, negative stars.

What other book full of carefully selected, international recipes includes a no-holds-barred "dossier of perfidy" for the 10 countries from where they originate and a bibliography richer than many doctoral theses? A cookbook with "Beer Butt Chicken" AND Zhen Qie Zi? Powerful and insightful critiques of Pakistani AND Israeli policies?

I enjoyed this book so much I bought several copies as holiday gifts. I'm glad I finally got to see what Mark's Garden is capable of doing with flowers. I love the passion and professionalism they having brought to flower design. The book is amazing and makes me want to entertain. So many great recipes are here too. Tons of great ideas on these pages. Love the black satin ribbon bookmark also. I'll be referring to it for years. Thanks!

The book itself is a wee bit of a disappointment, I had expected more exciting and vibrant food recipes and not so many drink recipes, but that has more to do with my own expectations i guess.
I might use one or two recipes but it won't be my main "go to" book when looking for inspiration.
