loved this book during my trip! It has great walking tours that help you navigate the confusing (and sometimes not very well-marked) streets and fantastic coverage of everything Gaudi. It also had excellent suggestions for tapas places that were delicious. I highly recommend this book for your travels to Barcelona.

I haven't taken my trip yet so I can't judge the recommendations or the accuracy of the details. I also bought "Rick Steves' Germany and Austria 2008" (which I think is near-great), so I will highlight Fodor's strengths. This book is well-organized. It's easy to quickly find what you want: Use the thumb tabs to get in the right region, then thumb through looking at the orange page and section headings. The font styles and symbols are easy to read. The maps are excellent. The sightseeing map location numbers are repeated by the sight descriptions. The "Where to Stay & Eat" maps are similar but the location numbers are not carried over to the description section. There are more recommendations for hotels and eating places than in RS. ... I have relied on Fodor's guide books many times to guide us through foreign countries (Japan, Thailand, Spain to name a few). This guide book proved to be indispensable while wandering the streets of Portugal, searching for the new landmark to see. I would have to say that Portugal is not as tourist friendly as other countries - not in terms of the people (who are very friendly), but in terms of signage that would direct us to landmarks, transportation hubs and tourist information offices.
It would have been nice to have a detailed map of the city of Porto (which this book lacks), one of the main tourist destinations. We wandered far and long, trying to find the tourist information office so that we could have a map.

This is a great book for Amsterdam, the only reason I didn't give it five stars was because I didn't have sufficient time to take day trips therefore I can't judge the rest of the book. However, the information on Amsterdam was fantastic. The food suggestions were great, as well as out of the way sight-seeing destinations that were well worth the trip.

It was so hard to chose a travel guide for a country I have never been to that I obsessed over the choices available. I finally settled on Frommer London and Foders England. Imagine my surprise when I couldn't find any mention of an area of England that I must spend time in due to a work obligation, in the Fodor's guide. I couldn't believe it!!! I should send it back for a refund, but instead you can look for it in my third party bookshop sometime in the near future.
