The Michelin Green Guide is still the best. It will turn you into your own expert guide. The star system lets you select the best spots to fit into your time frame. It will fit into your pocket, but it is not a light weight guide. Durable and easy to use, it is a classic.

I used this book in 2005 to visit Madrid/Toledo/Segovia/Seville/Granada and Cordoba and then again in 2007 on a 10 day trip through Galicia. The book's main advantage is that towns/cities are in alphabetical order, so info is easy to find.

However, I find the text lacking in sparkle--a bit too dull.........It was my #3 choice for information. (I also had the DK guide and the Rough Guide)

The size and shape of this book make it easy to carry during the day, but most of the time, I carried the DK guide!!

My husband bought me this guide as a gift for my first trip to New York. I must say that I could not have gotten along without it. Even though my traveling companion had been to Manhattan several times - she even lived there for a period - we were constantly consulting the manual. In particular, the subway map and the map of Central Park were very helpful. As an infrequent traveler, I also found it useful to have the expected gratuities spelled out of me.

I will continue to use the guide to help me sort and identify the many photographs I've taken during my trip.

This is a very valuable tool and the best of the many guidebooks I've come across.

Recommended by my French professor, I leaned heavily upon the expertise of the Michelin Green Guide during my first trip to Paris. The guide proved its worth over and over again. Despite the abundance of tourist guides for Europe and the vast expanse known as the Internet, this particular guide deserves a special place in your travel bag because:

It is thorough. Every detail you wanted to know - and some you could not imagine - can be found in this Guide. Architecture? History? The nearest bus stop? It's all there. As a history professor for twenty years I always required students on my England and Austria overseas summer semesters to purchase the appropriate Michelin Green Guide in order to learn the basic history and cultural specialties of the cities we lived in and visited. The guides pack a great deal of accurate detail and good maps into a reasonably small format that is easy to carry in a backpack or tote and is priced well for students and the general tourist.

This is my first experience with a Michelin Green Guide -- from the libary. Once I found the section I was looking for, it had useful information. The trouble was finding it! For example, I was looking for the Black Forest. It's not in the alphabetical listing of "Selcted SIghts" as "Black Forest". The index has one page reference which is in the front 'regions' section, and there's no mention of the German name for the region (which is how it's listed alphabetically). Looking in the index for a town I knew was in the region, I found it's page reference in the section "Schwarzwald (Black Forest)". That's what I was looking for -- success -- but not how I prefer to find my information. Frommer's and Rick Steves both organize by region which makes ... Read More:

Maps are good, but could be a little more complete. Found a typo or two on it, but worked for me to navigate to more obscure parts of Alsace.
