Of the very few travel guide options for Nicaragua this is the least informative. The font size in this book is about 13 point (think large print for the farsighted). If it had been printed using a smaller font size, similar to the other travel guides, it would be a pamphlet. I was extremely disappointed in the regurgitation of the usual suspects. There is nothing new in this guide, which is unfortunate because Nicaragua is an ever changing beauty. On the plus side, its photography usage is impressive.

The introduction chapter contains an overview of the guide as well as general information about the history, land, climate, flora, and fauna. Dec 2006 - Just finished 7 days on nearly all islands
in this book. Maps and general info. ok.
Other info out-of-date.
Saw a 2007 travel book just released (Frommers?).
Summary, get a more current and up-to-date guide for
the Lesser Antilles.
Lesser Antilles is a great place to visit. You want
to do fancy - it is very expensive.
Otherwise, did not find costs outrageous.

This is a highly informative guidebook that reviews both the obvious and obscure. The Bahamas has so much to offer and this book really manages to cover quite a bit. I highly recommend it for someone that wants an insight into each of the islands that make up the Bahamas.

This book is oriented toward people who are doing the Inside Passage by ferry rather than cruise ship. Throughout the book there is constant snottiness toward cruises.

I went by cruise ship and still found the book worth the price. If you are taking ferry boats, then this is the book to buy.

The author does grudgingly admit that cruising is economical. Yes. I got 7 nights lodging, all the gourmet food I could eat, transportation to four cities, and an excursion to Hubbard Glacier for $1000. If my companion had had a more flexible schedule, I could have done it for $700. I.e., $100/day. Pretty hard to do better than that.

This book is easy to read and helpful, although it sounds more like a Chamber of Commerce description than independent opinions. I prefer for authors of travel guides to offer advice on what is NOT great, rather than just listing everything with positive comments only. (Although, see my review of Frommer's Portable Cayman Islands, where I believe editorial comment is overdone.)

The information in this book is good but the organization is problematic when you are on the go. Having to look up cities by region was confusing to me. It is also a bit big for carrying around.
