My husband, who has a fondness for detailed maps, absolutely adores this map of Ireland. Compared to the other ones we looked at, it was by far the largest and most detailed, showing the most towns and cities and roads on one map. Other maps only show you main cities and main roads and the color coding can be distracting. This map is clear and has a very extensive legend showing places of interest and historical sites.

We are using this map to plan our trip to Ireland. It's tacked up on the wall so as we look through travel guide books, we can find the locations on the big map and plan our driving trip accordingly.

As for using this map while actually in Ireland remains to be seen. I doubt the size will lend itself ... Read More:

This does not show many of the back roads (un-improved...), and is not very topographic (mountains...). VERY CONFUSING to try and follow!

I "HIGHLY" recommend the!-
Benchmark Colorado Road & Recreation Atlas (any state!) Excellent detail/topographic, and most of the trails...!

This laboratory atlas is very helpful for a beginning Microbiology class. The slide pictures are very clear and all of the explanations of organisms and experiments are very easy to understand. I already recommended this book to some of my classmates.

#I think that the other reviewers have covered this one pretty thoroughly, so I am here mostly just to agree with them-though it is pretty dated, the Atlas of Medieval History is an indispensible source covering trade routes, political maps, and history itself from 363 to 1478. I too appreciate how it focuses primarily on Europe, though not to the point of ignoring or unfairly portraying the rest of the world. For a beginner to medieval history, this book can really put things in perspective for you, covering all the duchies, states, and emirates spanning Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and North Africa in this period. A handy reference for a student or amateur historian.

As an avid off-roader, I look for remote, under-the-radar types of places. Fortunately, my home state is one of the best places for 4x4 wandering. Anybody can hook up with some Glamis types and rip-it-up a local sand dune. For me, wilderness means getting far out of Phoenix, driving long distances on dusty back roads and eventually finding that perfectly lonely camp site. Enter the Benchmark Maps' "Arizona Road & Recreational Atlas." For browsing alone, it has been the impetus for multiple back country trips. When used with Google Earth and a guidebook, this tool has been perfect for triangulating locations and showing routes. The DeLorme Atlas is the obvious comparison. This map is of a very convenient size, folds up easily, and, as it's laminated, is unlikely to split at the folds anytime soon.
Includes useful transit and sightseeing information.
My only complaint is that, for someone whose eyesight isn't what it used to be, the small print used for street names, etc. can be hard to see in anything but the most ideal lighting.
