Great series of maps for residents and tourists. Very detailed but extremely compact (though still legible), laminated, folds easily. It can be used quite subtly, so you don't look lost (giving the apperance of a goofy out-of-towner, or worse, a safety issue.)

Chicago Streetwise features:
-Main map (north to Lakeview, south to Hyde park, west to Ukranian Village)
-Downtown map
-neighboring counties road map
-Hyde Park/Kenwood detail
-CTA/Metra train lines
-street and landmark index

On the main map, it identifies train stops (but unfortunately no busstop info, which may be helpful), street numbers, various important buildings (landmarks, colleges, some hotels, etc.).

I put "MAP REVIEW" in my title, as it seems that most of the reviews here are for the book? How does that make sense?

This map was good for us as it covered our itinerary - Venice, Florence, Siena, and Rome. The landmarks were helpful, as well as the designations for pedestrian areas and shopping areas. The map is fairly heavy paper, so it will last even if it's not laminated.

My main complaint is the map didn't have enough street level information. So if you're navigating by yourself, you may need another map if you're looking for a particular street location. Also, the maps are marked with the English version of the names of landmarks; for me, I find this confusing when walking around a city.

It is always great to have one of these on hand if you are planning any kind of trip or if someone gets lost. Lifesaver in my opinion. Great!

If you're going to Salem, this atlas is worthless!!!! I don't understand the other reviews mentioning Salem, very misleading. They must be talking about another atlas because it's almost as if they show Salem as an afterthought. There are two tiny sections of Salem in this atlas. One section cuts Salem in half with no detail & the other is at the edge of the page so you basically, again, see no detail. That's just it, as historic as Salem is, you want detail. I don't understand why there wasn't a page dedicated to just Salem & surrounding towns. I was very disappointed.

If you're going to Boston, this atlas is VERY detailed. I'll definitely use it then but don't go by the other reviews if you plan on going to Salem. Get another ... Read More:

We used this on a week-long stay in Milan. Sufficiently detailed to walk around minor streets (which change names frequently). I did not use this for driving in Milan, a GPS would be better then. Shows metro stops (M1,M2,M3) in context with city streets.

You can't possibly get the entire freakin city on one map!!! but this map gets the best parts, and the most likely visited tourist parts on two nicely folded and laminated sides. YES there are a lot of typos--and this is distracting to me, a Spanish Prof. I got over it. I wanted to get out my red pen, but I refrained, because it's got most of the sites I needed in doing research and generally navigating El Ombligo del Mundo--the Navel of the world. I've been to Mexico City dozens of times and I've used a sharpie pen to mark on this map the places I've been to and I've kept track of useful sites over the past six???? years I've used it. Unfortunately I laid it down somewhere earlier this month and I LOST it!!! I've tried in vain to replace it, and NO the Guia ... Read More:

I don't like this map. It doesn't cover the USC area and the print is too small. It also doesn't extend far enough northward.

all those cute little things do not tie the real concepts together.
This dumbs it down and does not get to the point. Much better books are out there.
