I am planning to sail to the South Pacific next year, and this seems like a very valuable planning tool. It has some information about the history of European exploration, weather patterns, general geography, route planning, etc., but the bulk of the volume is devoted to specific info about the individual island groups, and individual islands in them.
I predict this will be open often during my trip, along with Charlies Charts and a few others.

...he tends to repeat himself, maybe this is as the previous gentleman stated, because this was a series of magazine articles to begin with but I got tired of hearing the phrase "ribbon of _______" (whatever the Aussies call Asphalt over there , begins with a "B")used every time he was refering to the road. At one point this overused phrase was repeated two pages in a row, which I found simply ridiculous.

There were a few other descriptions that were phrased too close for comfort as well thoroughout the book. I guess this tale really needed an editor to point out the obvious flaws. I mean I'm no literary expert and even I saw these things.

We just got back fron a two week trip to the Hawaiian Islands. We visited three islands, Kau'ai, Oahu, and Hawai'i. The book proved to be a valuable tool to have during our visit. I'm not sure that I always agreed with the author's opinion on some things, but overall most of his tips were good ones. I paid $11 for the book and considering the cost of the trip, having this book or one like it is very worthwhile.

Purchased prior to our trip. Found it very helpful in planning, gave good idea what to expect esp. history on islands/traditions. Maps were accurate. Referenced many times while on vacation. Agree with other previous post...do not attempt to do cross island hike alone as it is not marked, Pa was an excellent guide. A visit to Atiutaki highly recommended. Spent 3 days at the Atuitaki Lagoon Resort...wish it would have been more.

I purchased book a week before my trip and read on flight to Sydney. Soon determined there were a number of inaccuracies in the attraction pricing and other minor specifics (e.g., per Frommer there were 30 Explorer bus stops in Blue Mountain...there were actually 27, which Lonely Planet had right). The organization layout could be more simplistic (i.e., one attraction was discussed in various areas of the same section - used labeled flags to facilitate use). The book is bulky to carry around in backpack - editions should be available for specific regions (e.g., Sydney and surrounding). Worship service times and places could be added.
