. Blue Guide Museums and Galleries of London, Fourth Edition
City Travel Guides > Books > Blue Guide
by: Tabitha Barber, Charles Godfrey-Faussett
December 12, 2005
Whether visiting London for your first time or you feel you know it very well, this is a brilliant starting point to determining which museums are worthy of your time. Blue Guide is easy to read and navigate. It's very objective in its presentation. It alphabetically lists museums and galleries from the world famous to small hidden treasures and describes them in very good detail, whether it takes one or twenty pages. If you only take one book to London, take this. The concierge and free (or cheap)resources available there (like Time Out magazine) can help you with shopping, navigating public transport, dining, performing arts, etc. It will not only help determine which museums, but you'll know which bits of the museums you'll most want ... . Blue Guide Southern India
City Travel Guides > Books > Blue Guide
by: George Michell
1998-03
I have spent something like 50 years writing books on India and traveling there. I went to Madura first in 1959. Took a boat once in 1960 from Madras(now Chenai) to Singapore for $10 along ( a 14 days deck passage trip)with 1400 Tamil workers, who wre headed for new lives in Singapore. Ah, the old days ...
Reading these book reviews herein posted I can only lament at the fools, nerds, idiots and generally feckless whimpy and clueless people who now "travel" if that is what you can call travel now to unbelievable, otherworldly places like South India.
This book by George Michel is absolutely the best South Indian Guide ever written on South India ....which takes up the sites, and culture of India that has ever been written. ... Read More:

. Blue Guide Athens and Environs
City Travel Guides > Books > Blue Guide
by: Robin Barber
1992-03
I just returned from spending a week in Athens and used this guide the entire time. It is a fantastic personal guide for the whole city, taking you to all the ancient sites as well as the more different places. The book explains the history of the sites, and then tells you almost stone-for-stone what you are looking at for each site. There are wonderful parts of Athens I would have missed had I not had this book with me. It also goes through places outside Athens, such as the sites at Sounion and Eleusis.
If you're interested in ancient history (and especially archaeological sites), then you can't do better than to take this guide with you to Athens.
