Before heading across the pond, I picked this one up when a friend recommended it to me. Of all the literature I used and/or purchased for the trip, this was by far the best. It pointed out tourist hotspots, good restaurants, neat quiet spots, and even had a lot of background about the sites of reference. If you're spending a good few weeks in London and it's your first time (or second or third), you should check this one out! .Blue Guide Florence, Eighth Edition (Blue Guides) City Travel Guides > Books > Blue Guide by: Alta MacAdam 2001-07 If you are looking for a guide that will help you "narrow down" the choices of sights to see in Florence, this one is not for you. If you are looking for extensive lists and reviews of hotels, again this is not for you. Finally, if you're looking for detailed restauraunt information, you won't find it here. Basically, this guide is not a planning guide. I have used the Internet for most of my planning (e-mail me if you need some help finding some great sites MarySorens@yahoo.com). What this guide does have to offer is an amazing amount of cultural, historic, and artistic information in a very packable sized guide. This will be the guide to read when you are doing your own tours of Florence. It will tell you far more than any tour guide would. .Blue Guide Barcelona, Second Edition City Travel Guides > Books > Blue Guide by: Annie Bennett 2002-12 Was no one paying attention? The editor for this book should be fired. With the format of detailing the artistic/architectural sites of interest, with reviews of stores and restaurants/eateries, this was a specialist type travel book that had potential. But where it fails horrible is in it's usability: There is no way to FIND the places the book is reviewing. When the book tells you there is a great restaurant on such-and-such a street, you can't find the street or the location. There are a few pages of maps in the back, but no street index, no little numbers cross referencing locations, nothing. Very frustrating.
