Quite the eye-opener about how many supposedly rich people are actually being supported by their parents. I did think it had a lot of undertones about how being cheap, I mean frugal, was noble in its own right and there's nothing worth spending money on except charity and education. But it was motivational, inspirational and educational.

Financial history is fascinating precisely because it documents simularities with the present, even while the products or organizational mechanisms of the time are different; this book is great for this moment of credit contraction and fear in the 21st century, a hundred years after the documented events.

Reading about JP Morgan (the person) meeting with the various bank and trust company heads, and bringing in Teddy Roosevelt as he felt relevant, reminded me both of the behind-doors funding conversations in 1998 that kept the Long Term Capital disaster from spreading (see When Genius Failed, by Roger Lowenstein), and made me think of Tim Geithner, head of the NY Fed, and Henry Paulson, Treasury Secretary, working with JP Morgan (the ... Without a doubt, The Essays of Warren Buffett : Lessons for Corporate America was a definitive and clear insight into the mind of a genius - just see my review for this first edition. The Second Edition, however, adds another dimension reflective of today's business and investing environment.

Specifically:

Corporate Governance
- addition of "Audit Committees" section. As usual, a frank and down-to-earth assessment of just how honest an "audit committee" can be (it can't) - great addition, brings investors back to reality for believing these jokers.

This book provides a superb explanation of the core concepts of economics, allowing the reader to grasp the essential principles, or, as in my case, allowing the reader to gain a far better understanding of these principles than he previously had. The author uses colorful examples, and he is an excellent writer who uses good English to make his points rather than dry jargon. It allows the reader to develop a much more vivid, clear understanding of the principles in question. This is a superb book, which I highly recommend.

I got this hoping to learn a lot about our national debt problem: what exactly it means, how big the problems are, what the causes are, etc. This book has almost nothing of that: whatever discussion there is of actual facts is just meant to make the reader understand this is a big problem--something anyone who buys this book already knows. That is to say, this book is very lacking in statistics and study of what they mean.
The book is arranged in two sections: the first part is the informative section, and the other half is a collection of interviews with supposed experts. This book is definitely one of the best books ever...I claim to be a mathematician somewhat having gained straight A's in pure and applied mathematics and advanced mathematics with (a boring) engineering degree at a number of UK univerisities, and after years of dabbling in options trading and having experienced first hand; Black Monday (black swan?), the Asian Economic Crisis, living in the epicentre of SARS (lucky to avoid it), and being in this market whilst we have one of the greatest financial crisis ever since the great depression..this book in my opinion is a real diamond and i reckon Taleb is a genius. When I first came across this book, I had planned on reading a Buffet biography for quite some time. I hesitated for a while because there were so many options. As I enjoyed reading Roger Lowenstein's, When Genius Failed, I made my decision to read this particular book based solely on my knowledge of the author. Fortunately, Lowenstein did not disappoint. Indeed, this Buffet biography is very well written and will be entertaining to both the lay person and professional investor, alike. If I could suggest one or two improvements, it would be for the author to reduce the overall length and sprinkle in a few more investing ideas. I found QBQ through Dave Ramsey's radio program. Dave is the Financial Peace guru and author of The Total Money Makeover. I am a big Ramsey fan and I figured if QBQ was mandatory reading for his staff then it should be for me and my team as well. QBQ is a quick read and when actually put into practice can have a dramatic impact on one's personal and professional life. Unfortunately, many people will miss its profound implications because of its simplicity. The fact is, if you're like me, you have very little time to learn new concepts much less put them into practice. If so, you're going to love QBQ.
