I completely agree with the positive recommendations of The Economist Magazine and the reviewers. George Cooper has combined a strong technical and practical investment background to produce a modern thoughtful study of how to best manage our complex economy. However, I disagree with Brady on its readability, I feel Cooper opens this subject up to any thoughtful investor {regardless their background) by writing in down-to-earth English. He uses everyday examples, like a baker making and selling bread. His clear understanding of the material and deep sympathy for the reader motivate him to use such everyday examples to completely dispense with mathematical equations. I won this book in a lottery and it was on my bookshelf for several years. I thought it would be one of those repetitive bestsellers about management and leadership, so common in this genre. Belonging to this genre, this book could not escape its being repetitive, but the content far outweighed this minor flaw. It was mainly about systemic thinking or systems theory, which is the 5th discipline. I had read about systemic thinking (in a text book by Adalberto Chiavenato), but very superficially. He only made the reference that the organizations are systems similar to living organisms, in the sense that they interact with their environment.

I've read over 200 books on sales and marketing in my career and SPIN Selling is without question one of the best out there. No tactics, techniques or processes (those never work) like other sales books. Excellent for relationship selling. I am seeing the author Neil Rackham in one of his very rare live appearances in December of 08 (www.MoveAhead1.com) and highly recommend that everyone reading this gets tickets to see a true sales giant.

I've read most of the b-school books about student life and I truly enjoyed this one. It was an intelligent take on the experience. The b-school content - and the fever around recruiting/careers - is perfectly captured.

For many of us (and possibly you, the reader), this is an authentic perspective, albeit a somewhat conservative one. I'd also recommend Snapshots from Hell (also about Harvard) and The Blushing MBA (woman's view, based on Harvard or some top-tiered school).

I purchased this title for an MBA course, 'The Causes of Corporate White Collar Crime'. It, along with quite a few case studies, makes up our reading content for this course. Cialdini does a thorough job of focusing on a number of topics of influence: reciprocation, consistency, social proof, liking, authority and scarcity. For each of these topics, Cialdini successfully incorporates many real life examples to help flesh out and explain each of these. Instead of some hard to read textbook, it is an enjoyable read and easy to get into and follow.

As has already been stated, the view of the world of mass collaboration presented in this book is rather simplistic. It could be helpful, though, if you are new to the topic and would like to understand what "emergence", "wikis" and "prosumers" mean and how the term "knowledge" is changing in meaning.

If you read this book and got nothing from it, I'd have to say you don't know how to read between the lines.

I'm only on page 7 and have found the following thus far:

* Great description of a Multiplier in the Prologue: "When Albert Einstein attended a press conference after he won the Nobel Prize, a reporter asked him, 'What is the strongest force in the universe?' He smiled and replied, 'Compound interest.' All the journalists laughed.
