Williams January 03, 2007 The material was straightforward and easy to understand, although it may have helped that our school requires us to take calculus first. I found the examples helpful...however it was brought to my attention that our faculty likes some of their "own" formulas better than the shall we say long, drawn-out tedious formulas of the book. Same answers, just different ways of getting them. Anyhow, excited to buy and resell this book through Amazon! Houston March 03, 2006 Some things were explained in the book fairly well, however it is too wordy. Once again these textbooks do a bang-up job of taking your money and confusing the hell out of you. This is why people are afraid to take classes like Corporate Finance or even pursue a degree in related fields. This book is written many levels above the students head and it is supposed to be BASIC! It's funny many of these authors are just instructors with an extremely high level of education (Phd's) and no REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE! I walked out on the "speech," and thought maybe the book would be better. Alas, it wasn't. This is the most self-aggrandizing book of this genre I have ever read. One wonders how many times that "I" appears in the book. "I did this, I did that, I'm great...." You name it. His methods smack of insincerity and merely using people for his own advantage. It disgusts me. Much better material out there; don't waste your money on this one. .The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World City Travel Guides > Books > Business and Investing by: Alan Greenspan September 17, 2007 Greenspan is smart and gives a good picture of how the U.S. economy works(and sometimes doesn't). Near the end of the book he talks about the regulation of markets, in particular the investment industry. He doesn't think much of regulation and says things like hedge funds perform a fundamental good in the economy. Would the country be worse off if a hundred highly leveraged hedge funds closed down tomorrow? I personally don't think so....the country may be better. Charlie Munger thinks that a lot of liquidity brings out a bad side in humans. I think this has been shown with the credit/real estate situation now. Charlie Munger says that Greenspan overdosed on Ayn Rand. I think so too. Other than that chapter near the end of the book, ... Out of curiosity I decided to buy the book. I really enjoyed it. I loved how it was written in a diary format and how the author was so real and blunt about everyone and everything she came in contact with.
