.Take the Kids Paris & Disneyland Paris, 2nd (Take the Kids - Cadogan) City Travel Guides > Books > Cadogan by: Helen Truszkowski May 01, 2002 This was really a very good guide book. The maps and pictures were really well done, and the book was comprehensive in its treatment yet very concise and portable. Very nicely done, even had a fairly good section on Disney Paris, although inevitably some things weren't as much detail as I would have liked (seasonal closing of some rides, details about hotels, etc). I really liked the themed itineraries at the beginning and really thought this was a nicely done book. For families with smaller kids, I recommend the first 2 "Madeline" books as well, and "Linnea in Monet's Garden" as ways to get the kids excited about Paris, and you can always throw in Disney's Hunchback video too. If you are looking for maps (other than a Metro and RER railway map inside the back cover and the walking maps) and colour pictures you are advised to look elsewhere. After opening chapters looking at `Paris in a Weekend' ,practicalities, history, art and architecture and several short pieces on topics such as dog poo and modernism (well worth reading - very entertaining, but make sure your spectacles prescription is up to date - the print in this section is very small!), the guide really gets into its strength. During a month in Ireland, Cadogan's "Ireland" by Catharina Day (Globe Pequot Press, ......)was my constant travel companion, and I'd highly recommend the newest edition to anyone traveling in the Emerald Isle. The book contains excellent maps, historical perspectives, a guide to the politics, historic chronology, Gaelic language, geology, myths and legends, and religious complexities of this beautiful country. It also has a fairly hefty section on practical travel advice tailored specifically to the Irish traveler.
