On first glimpse of Sharlene "Charlie" Minshall she does not strike you as an adventurer. It's hard to imagine this five foot three inch lady maneuvering a 27-foot box-on-wheels down a narrow winding dirt road in Hell's Canyon in July or sloshing through the slushy snow of backroads in Nova Scotia. Except for her flowing silver mane, she looks quite ordinary. But ordinary is not a word you would choose to describe Charlie's RV adventures. Charlie's been to every US state and Canadian province and seventeen of Mexico's states. This feat is made all the more remarkable when you learn that she has traveled to these far corners of North America alone, just she and her motorhome, which has now accumulated over 250,000 miles.

I am having fun with this Ulysses guide book. I came across it recently at Chapters bookstore on St. Catherine's in Montreal. Clearly this is a niche topic, so it has little competition. It's small enough to fit in almost any pocket for those spare moments when you might want to occupy yourself. The Quebecois word or phrase is highlighted with the standard French and English translation following. There is also some useful commentary.

I am delighted to see "poutine" here. This is a heart-stopping offering well known to Montrealers consisting of french fries, melted cheese bits, and (hang-on) brown gravy! I've recently embraced snorkeling, and one of my biggest frustrations is the number of books that combine snorkeling and diving... and then focus almost wholly on the diving. Since many of us cannot get PADI certified (for example, if we've ever had asthma), we're left with only snippets and leftovers of information. But that's NOT the case with "Best Dives' Snorkeling Adventures." This book does an excellent job of listing and rating snorkeling sites around the world (though mostly near the USA, Caribbean, and northern South America). It lists recommended dive shops in those areas, and even offers suggestions of where to stay. And best of all? It's for those of us who SNORKEL.

A previous review noted they had an outdated version. This is the new 2006 version that I just received. Great read and a must book to keep on board if you are cruising any of these waterways.
Contains Restaurants, Marinas, Gas, Food Supplies Side trips and Safe bays to Anchor along the way etc.

Pictures and history of each town and port you will be approaching. Shipped free and makes a great gift for any boater who be might traveling to the covered regions. Nice coffee table book if you live in the regions too!
