I purchased this in 2003 for a trip later that year. I had no problems getting around, but after multiple trips to the city I would recommend buying a map once you're in the city. I spotted a minor error with the subway listings, and they list a non-existent green space in the Annex neighborhood...I asked a passerby and they had no idea where it could be! The TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) has free, to-date-maps that are available in all the stations with agents. So do some booths at Pearson Airport. Still, the foldable, waterproof format is super-convenient. Just remember to pick up a more current map and carry the Streetwise one when you're walking around for general reference.

MOON HANDBOOKS COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE: INCLUDING COMPLETE COVERAGE OF PORTLAND is a wonderful book about northern Oregon and southern Washington, including complete coverage of the Portland-Vancouver metro area. Thus, you get information on both rural pleasures, such as hiking and white-water rafting, and urban ones, including shopping, dining, and museums. This is a book that anyone with an interest in geography must own.

Sisterchicks Down Under does not live up to Sisterchicks Do the Hula. I credit the author with writing woman-positive story interwoven with Christian themes. In this book, the author explores the Crucifixion, with what could be a powerful climax. (Biblical passages and themes support the story throughout.) However, I was so bored by the end that I totally missed the climax.

Descriptions of New Zealand and Australia were impeccable. I felt like I was the one on vacation! I actually want to visit both countries, or at least tap into their cultures via the world wide web! "People of the Deer" is apparently Farley Mowat's first book and one of his best. He lived for a year amongst the Ihalmiut, an Inuit people Mowat refers to as "People of the Deer" although they regarded themselves, as have many aborigonal people, as simple "The People."

They are people of the deer--caribou--because, unlike other Inuit groups they are not sea hunters but, instead predators of the migratory caribou herds. The herds have declined in numbers but not as much as the Ihalmiut. From a population high of around 7,000 they had, by Mowat's time, declined to only 40. Why? The impact of European Civilization is too simple of a generalization but, in the Ihalmiut, a people almost extinct, we see the fate of millions.

An exciting account of salvage work off the coast of some of our most dangerous waters. How in the world Farley manages to make salvage work exciting is beyond me but his tales are gripping

This book gives you information that few other books do. Description of campgrounds, best places to eat, shopping, wildlife viewing, scenic drives, etc. You also don't have to buy several books to visit this area. This one book will cover the whole area.
