Great book at fraction of original price. Really helped me out on my trip. Very informative. In fact I bought two of these, one for me and one for friends that went on trip with us.

The most glaring error I found on this map is misleading info about Santiago's airport, which must be at least ten years old. The map shows it just north of the city, whereas the airport is actually 15 miles or so to the southeast. Otherwise, the map is vague about road conditions. Dirt roads are not distinguished from paved. Many roads are omitted. There is no detailed map of Santo Domingo or Santiago, the D.R.'s two largest cities.

The book began with somewhat of an attitude. One of the exiles "wallowed in history like a boy in a mud bog", another "cackles gleefully", and others "unashamedly shook hands" (why be ashamed to shake hands?). I almost put it down, but I'm glad I didn't. A lot of meat, and some very good writing follows.

The book is one part travelog, one part recent Cuban history and one part the story of Castro's classmates at the exclusive Jesuit school. Some of "the boys" supported Castro and his revolution before they fought against him. History is intertwined with descriptions of rations, baseball games and streetscapes.

Just returned from 8 days in Havana and have to say that the guide is for people who have 2 or less days. I originally purchased the Moon guide as well but did not want to cary it around. Lots of missing info and way too general. I returned to re-read the Moon guide and have to say it is way more accurate and in depth. The sections in the back about the music is helpful.

Compact, high gloss pages make the book portable and water resistant. The color photographs are mostly good. Some make it hard to know what you are looking at. The b/w drawings of fish shapes in the front is very helpful. I was able to find 90 percent of the fish and invertebrates, but the corals are pretty limited in this book. I think its a good value, just the same

This is a very imformative work, although it could do with being updated. Probably the best reference book of BVI dive sites for professional and recreational divers alike.

We had prepared for our trip by reading all this book had to say about the island, which was very helpful in planning day trips, money exchange, restaurants, etc. We took the book with us and it was extremely helpful with maps when we drove around the island, and the different side trips off the main road. I would highly recommend it to any who are planning a trip to that area!
