As usual, the Lonely Planet book delivers tons of information for travelers of all incomes. Especially helpful are tips on where to go to avoid cruise ship crowds. However, I had to skip the chapter on Cuba, because of the US travel ban. And the chapters on Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic should probably only be used to decide whether or not you want to go to those places. If so, you should probably buy the Lonely Planet books dedicated exclusively to them.

Purchased both the Frommers and Fodors books (same title). The Fodors book seems to provide more information and in a much more readable format.

Excellent maps and descriptions of hikes, places to explore and snorkel/dive sites. Restaurants, places to stay and some history of the island make this a very thorough guidebook.

The Blanchards have done what a lot of us dream of doing: a fun job without bosses in a fun country with fantastic weather--at least in season! Aside from providing a thoroughly enjoyable account of their move to Anguilla, the book is also a passionate description of how one can make a dream come true, and with not that much money at all. Having said that, their repeated references to the Anguillan "paradise" maybe a bit excessive when one considers the horrible red-tape, vicious hurricanes and logistic nightmares they had to deal with. But perhaps that is what makes this book really excellent: it is a realistic view of the pros and cons of the Blanchards' choice, devoid of sticky romanticism and with no trace whatsoever of the smugness and superiority complexes ... Bruce Van Sant is more than a little over-bearing in his style. Smug and self-congratulatory are his middle names. That said, the man has written an excellent,excellent book chock-full of insights, caveats, how-to's,and how-NOT to's, right down to a great but simple recipe for beer bread! There are at least a dozen good books you should have on board when you depart Fort Lauderdale for the Islands and boy, this is ONE of them for sure. Buy it! You will read it again and again.

This was a wonderful guide book to have before and during our recent trip to St. Lucia. It one of a series of guide books. I'd recommend it or any of the other Rough Guide publications based on my experience with this one. We were inspired to take a lot of hikes and go to good snorkeling places we probably would not have found on our own on our 5 day visit to St. Lucia.

Great book to throw in your backpack and take with you on the cruise. You can bone up on a bit of the history and it will get some ideas ffor excursions or places to visit on the islands.

We enjoyed this travel tool very much...just wish we could've been on vacay longer to use it even more! :) Wishful thinking. Also, the fold up map in the back is great!
