Ok.. I am a travel book freak. This is the best travel guide around. I have about seven of them Barcelona,Rome,Naples,New York, Venice etc... Everything about this guide is great. Visually great ...Small fits in
your pocket or small purse Great maps.. hard to get lost even in Venice. Great recommends ,hotels, food and.. I am a shopper.. Absolutely great & unusual shops ..None of the bad tourist gear only the styling gear.. .I had five guides to Rome over two trips to Rome this is the one we used every day...Do not go anywhere without this guide if there is one available for the destination Im will be traveling to....

I bought three books to use to coordinate my upcoming two week trip to CR. As it turned out, I booked two of the authors' suggestions. One of the inns that I selected that was in this book, was in none of the other books I used. While making the arrangements, the staff of the inns/lodges were very helpful and nice (even though I had to email them numerous times with questions). I will say, though, that this is not a 'budget' hotel/inn guide. If you're a backpacker or on very limited budget, I don't think this guide will be of much use. The book is also very nicely constructed with lovely pictures and quality, glossy pages. All in all, a very nice book.

We bought this book for the restaurant reviews alone as we had already picked out our hotel. We flagged 6 restaurants before we left that seemed both interesting and reasonably priced. One (Port O Call) didn't exist at 87 Front Street as the book said, a second (Traditions) was closed until september 15 and a 3rd (Henry VIII) did not have the toffee dessert (my favorite) that the book touted. The Waterlot Inn, Pickled Onion and especially the Lobster Pot were as good or better than I expected. With very expensive prices at the Fairmont Southampton ($29 per person for a bootleg breakfast buffet) a good restaurant guide is imperative and Fodor"s is not that.

As I said, this book is a good help for plan our trip to Cuba next August.
There are a lot of details, descrpctions, not only about the kilometeres between the villages, as the places we can eat something or the places we can buy something... Than you, and I have a nice live!!

Before purchasing this book, I did a bit of research on the different guides available. One had a lot of advertisements, but was popular. It was more like a Frommers travel book. This one was written by the guy who actually used equipment relied upon by chartmakers for local depth soundings. You could tell by his "local" hints that he really took the time and effort to give you the insider's view. From recomming "Mr.Fantastic" (a local boat vendor who sold us delicious lobster), to recommendations on local restaurants at each of our island stops along the way, this book was fantastic.
