Sometimes you reread titles and are disappointed. Other times, they've not faded at all. As much as I enjoy all..er... most of Ennis and Dillon's collaborations, they've never topped Preacher.

Any single volume of Preacher makes for a self-contained read, but this, the first in the series, is still the best. Jesse and his band of merry pals are all introduced and the overall plot ('find God') is thrown up on the table within the first few pages. The rest is joyous wackytime, cluttered with some of the most memorable characters in all comics history - from the truly scary (The Saint of Killers) to the real monsters (Sheriff Root).

Offensive, disturbing and a thoroughly satisfying story.

After having this referred by a few friends I decided to pick it up but was surprised at some of the negative reviews but decided to check it out anyway and to be honest, I was glad I did. The story is original and completely off-the-freaking-wall with a diverse cast of characters (one character is made entirely out of human crap). Now I will admit, the comic is juvenile and pretty perverse but if you just sit back and take the comic without a bit of seriousness, it's a good time. But if you can't handle a lot of cussing, perverse jokes and the such, then don't read this comic. The first book in Brian K. Vaughan's Y: THE LAST MAN set up the premise: all the males in the world of every species have died except for loser named Yorick Brown and his pet monkey Ampersand. In the chaos that follows American society is oppressed by totalitarian Amazons, who are marked ideologically by an intense detestation of all things male (in later books they will even try to tear down structures they imagine are male) and by their ill-informed attempt to mimic Amazons by cutting off one breast (actually, there is no good evidence that the mythical Amazons removed a breast so as to be better archers, and I've been told by women who are actually good with a bow that there is no physiological reason to need to do so).

In this volume, the story gets more and more serious and scary. I really liked it. The characters are so likeable and the plot so fun and engaging you can't help but enjoy the Bone books, and this one rates very highly.

As I have with my review of the first four volumes, I'll start this review off with a short explanation of the omnibus series.

"Unless you're a completist with oodles and oodles of cash, this is the way to go if you want to collect the older Buffy comics. Before this, they have been collected (for the most part) into smaller trade paperbacks, each of which cost almost as much as this volume. Now, before I get into my review, let me explain the omnibus series, as I've seen a lot of people misunderstanding.when talking about it on message boards: This is not the only omnibus.
