. The Sandman Vol. 5: A Game of You
City Travel Guides > Books > Comics and Graphic Novels
by: Neil Gaiman, Bryan Talbot, George Pratt, Stan Woch
September 03, 1993
A messed up girl named Barbie has created a dream world with some serious problems. After blocking this out of a mind for her time, and not dreaming, eventually her dream world gets to her.
This drags in her friends and neighbours, who happen to include an immortal witch, and an agent of her dream foe.
Through a drawing down the moon ritual, the women involved enter the dream world to try and rectify things and find Barbie.
Needless to say, Morpheus is not at all amused, when he finally has to act.
This part really has little to do with the Endless.

. Fables Vol. 1: Legends in Exile
City Travel Guides > Books > Comics and Graphic Novels
by: Bill Willingham
December 01, 2002
Sometimes, even the best comic series take a while to get into. Y: The Last Man didn't hit it stride until the fourth volume. IDW's Angel line didn't get good until Brian Lynch and Joss Whedon took the reigns three years after the series started, and now it's my favorite comic being published. My point is that these classic series took a while to get good... but "Fables" doesn't. By the second issue, I was hooked and devoured the rest of this volume (titled "Legends in Exile") in no time at all. As the back of the book says, it's "instantly compelling."
The story takes characters from various fables and throws them into modern day New York, which has made them more like us (potty mouthed, romantically troubled, and complex) than anything else. The ... Read More:

. The Sandman Vol. 6: Fables and Reflections
City Travel Guides > Books > Comics and Graphic Novels
by: Neil Gaiman
January 04, 1994
To me, this is one of the best volumes in the series. It's a collection of eight separate stories of varying lengths, almost all with an historical connection. (To more or less real people, that is.) And there's no frame story for a change. "Three Septembers and a January" is a lovely piece about Emperor Norton, the deluded mascot of San Francisco for several decades in the 19th century, while "Thermidor" is a somewhat less successful piece about Lady Johanna Constantine and her search for the living head of Orpheus (who is also the son of Dream). Much later in the volume (oddly placed) is "Orpheus," about how he lost his bride and then his head. "The Hunt" is about werewolves, sort of, and it's cute but kind of a minor work. "August" is a fascinating and well-conceived story ... Read More:

. From Hell - New Cover Edition
City Travel Guides > Books > Comics and Graphic Novels
by: Alan Moore, Eddie Campbell
February 23, 2000
From Hell is kind of confusing for the first four or five chapters. You really don't have too much of a clue what's going on and who every character is. However, after the first murder, it really starts to weave all of the confusing parts of the first few chapters together and make sense of them. Alan Moore does a great job of showing what the Jack the Ripper murders might have been like, and also showing what the man may have been like himself. The ending wraps everything up quite nicely, and is really profound. From Hell is just more proof of why Alan Moore is widely considered the best in the business.
