As a devoted Buffy/Angel fanatic, I figured that after the launch of Buffy: Season Eight at Dark Horse that it wouldn't be long before Joss Whedon let loose some new adventures for Angel as well. Well, here we are with Angel: After the Fall from IDW, which is basically what season six could have been. Picking up shortly after the series ended, Los Angeles has pretty much been turned into Hell on earth, and we soon learn just what has happened to Angel and his crew. Okay, this is seriously one of the most brilliant books I have ever read, and I have Henry (who is also brilliant) to thank for introducing this to me. (Thank you, Henry.) Although this book has been around since '93, I suspect it's nowhere near as recognized as it deserves to be, but with time that will change, I hope.

The full title is "Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art," and what Scott McCloud does is explain what we take almost completely for granted, not just about comics, which he convincingly raises to a fine art, but also about the way we 'see,' and think we see, the world around us, especially as it is represented in words and images.

Okay, this is the first time I have ever left a review for anything, let alone for something that I truly enjoy reading. I will try to stay as unbiased as possible!

My biggest part that upset me the most when I found out that Volume 12 is the collection of issue's 84-88, which totally threw me off, since this series is really big on numbers. 13 families, 7 minutemen, 100 total issues. Come on now Vertigo, why in the world didn't you include more issues, I would figure there would be a total of 13 TPB, but I am sorely wrong. Secondly, why did it take so long between Volumes 11 and 12. When I purchased Volume 12, not through Amazon but at a independently owned and operated comic book store, and issue 95 is already out, so why the delay???? I mean ... Read More:

This new edition will prove to be another classic 2 year period. Snoopy will continue his charade as the World War I Flying Ace (as pictured on the cover). Charlie Brown's beloved little red haired girl moves away (he still has to feed his dog amidst a broken heart and Linus gives him a little boot for not getting to know her when he had the chance!). Lucy ponders the meaning of life. Snoopy is the 1st dog to go to the moon and is left at the Van Pelts while Charlie and Sally Brown are on vacation. Charlie Brown has the chance to meet Joe Shlabotnik at a baseball banquet dinner and brings Linus and Snoopy (Snoopy flirts with Peggy Fleming). I ordered the comic, because I was dying to find out what happened after the last episode. Though I am glad to know which characters are doing what,... I was thoroughly dissapointed in the comics. I have never been a comic book reader, and will remain that way. I am a huge Buffy fan and will always hope that the series will come back to TV, or go on in actual books.

These Manga books are just a quick, easy way for the authors of the
Warrior Cat series to make some extra bucks. The books are rip-offs. In this particular one, we see the "good side" of the murderous Tigerstar and learn what a hyprocrite he was to fall for a kittypet, father children with her, and make her hide the truth about herself. It's just stupid. It doesn't even make any sense when viewed in the context of the Warrior Cats series. I commend the authors for trying to add depth to Tigerstar's character, but this was the wrong approach. And the books are small, and expensive as well! I'm all in favor of authors making money, but not like this.

I'm harder to scare these days than when I was a kid and horror movies were still black and white and filled with trademark Hollywood monsters. Currently, I've been through a plethora of Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, and ghost movies and their spawn. It takes a lot to scare me these days.

Then Hollywood introduced me to FRIDAY THE 13TH, HALLOWEEN, and NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. George C. Scott's THE CHANGELING totally creeped me out, and Steven Spielberg's POLTERGEIST taught me to fear my television. Then I watched adaptations of Thomas Harris's novels, RED DRAGON and SILENCE OF THE LAMBS and learned to fear serial killers that were really among us.

Achewood is the greatest advance in comic art since "Calvin and Hobbes", and this is Onstad's first book with a major publisher. For the uninitiated it's a good introduction; for the devoted fan it's essential. I'm making Dinosaur Potato Chuds for dinner tonight.

Ayano Yamane is all that needs to be said as her artwork is true beauty. A fantasy story with high yaoi content and some would consider non-con. If you enjoy her View Finder series you will like this one only it is more fantasy than View Finder which involves Yakuza vs Fantasy.
