I used this book for a graduate level Algorithms course, and I really liked it. It is packed full of content on a wide range of topics. While this book does provide some high-level implementations of algorithms in pseudo-code, you will not find any examples of how to program algorithms in this book. That's really not what this book is meant for anyways.

I found the reading to be easier than Knuth on similar topics, but you still need to have sufficient mathematical background in order to keep up (statistics, discrete math, some calculus). Also, unlike many technical books I've read recently, I did not find any mistakes, not even a typo.

this is the same version of discovering computer 2008 but with just different covers! i mean they both have the same information! the only differnce with this year version is that it has new pictures and thats it.. i feel tooken for becuase i bought this book thinking it will have new information about computer technolgy.. lol i know im reapeating the same thing but seriously if you have discoering computer 2008 theres no reason to get this book

I am moving through this book and very much appreciate the charts for reference, the clarity in his explanations, the repetition of important distinctions, and the repetition shortcuts throughout the exercises so that by the end of the book, you really can use the shortcuts. So far, I especially appreciate the in depth explanation of blending modes, that I have never found in any of the other adobe introductory books read to date.

I don't own the book but I've checked and read it at a nearby store. I sat down and read it for nearly an hour (because I'm serious about jumping in to learn InDesign) Well, what I can say is; If you are a beginner, then use the Adobe Classroom book. It have all the tutorial and hands on training using the file included. You NEED hands training, file example and step by step instruction and finally see it done. That's how you TRULY learn. Although there has been a negative review on Adobe InDesign CS3 Classroom book, but its a good start for total beginner. Don't be too ambitious when you're just starting out (like immediately attracted to a 5 star book telling you can produce professional layout plus easy enough to follow.)

I generally hate math, but The Numerati is written for people like me. It's a light journey through the data-driven world we live in and the world we will live in soon. If you think that math-generated things like amazon's "recommendations" are a cool feature of our modern world, well, you ain't seen nothin' yet. The Numerati answers some of the questions you may have wondered about and many that you hadn't thought of. All the while, you are entertained and pulled along by really great writing. For a non-fiction book, it's a page-turner. Enjoy!
