This is an excellent and informative book. I was however quite surprised that Checchino, which I believe has 1 Michelin star and is possibly the best known restaurant in Rome, doesn't rate a mention, especially as it certainly fits the Slow Food motives.

First, I bought Fodor's France 2008 and then bought Fodor's Paris 2008 which gave me more detailed information I needed for my vacation. Stayed in Paris 8ni/9da and it was excellent.

The book was very detailed and gives you information by section. I didn't even buy a map when I got to Paris and just used to the book and it was great.

However, I think this book can be improved and I was going to put this on Fodor's website but I wanted to write it down on my reveiw first.

When you indicate names of subway stations, please write down which line it belongs to. For example, Metro Concorde (line 1) instead of just giving names of subway stations because Paris has many many subway lines. Also, indicate ... Read More:

I bought this book, along with several others, for a trip I took to London with my husband and 13 year old daughter. We already had a hotel so we didn't use that section, but we found it to be a great reference book for almost anything we needed quick information on. Museums, places to visit, train and subway information, the proper amount to tip, it was all in there. Definitely worth the investment.

I have not read the entire book, but it seems to deliver what the title promises. Basically what do I do when I get off the train station in a town--each guide section has a simple walking tour with some interesting facts.

USELESS ! ! ! I never got it and you people just blew me off,, not to make a pun. I gave the seller a P O box address and they gave the package to U P S who, according to their records left the package on "the porch ". Whatever that means? The post office claim they never saw it, or they would have left it in my box. What good is anything, if it is never delivered? I sent email to Amazon and made a call. No response to either! Don't expect me back at Amazon.com..... and since you have to have a rating to get out of this stupid thing I put one star. If you had black or negative stars, I would fill the page. it's stupid!

What a trip! This book gives you most of the details you need to get on the train and get an education. Time passes fast so take advantage of each moment. Four men just returned from Beijing to Moscow (August 2008), the trip of a lifetime. Very helpful guide into the cities and scenes along the way. It doesn't tell about all the great people riding the rails with you. Friends forever!

My husband LOVES to cook and try different recipes. I bought him this book but he didn't care for it because it has no pictures and he likes to see what the dish is supposed to look like or even to decide whether he wants to try it or not by seeing the picture.
This books gives a lot of Greek culture, he says, but he wasn't interested in that.

I enjoyed this book. I will be going back to Italy in the fall and will probably visit some small hill towns. Since this book, the Mates are now living in another part of Italy. It was fun to read. Once you read this one then read the next book "A Vineyard in Tuscany: A Wine Lover's Dream".
