Over the years, I have been very pleased with travel guides by DK Publishing, but this one was a big let down. We tried several of the recommended restaurants, and they were absolute disappointments. Whoever recommended these restaurants could not have actually tried them, as they consistently reflected poor quality food, service, and hygiene. Unfortunately, the most recent edition of this guidebook available in 2008 was published in 2005, so it was outdated. Several of the recommended restaurants are now closed. This confirms that they were probably not good restaurants in the first place. I wonder if the publisher is paid to put certain restaurants on the list? Visiting California with one book is no easy task but Eyewitness does a very good job of creating a book that can be used easily. With so much to do the regionalization of California in this book is one of its most useful aspects. Although I wish they would break it into northern and southern California if you are going to be visiting the state this is a great place to start looking.

This map is meant to be an accompaniment to the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide to Paris, and it may be that it works well in that role. (I enjoy the books; I think the series is terrific.) But as a standalone product, I found it an unsatisfactory compromise between the Streetwise series and a "real" Michelin city map. It is larger than the Streetwise series, and shows a bit more of the city, but it is seriously lacking in the detail that comes with the Michelin city map. And if you want to go anywhere beyond the central arrondissments, you're out of luck.

There is no substitute for simply having the addresses and phone numbers available in a book when travelling by car. The book lists quality places in the various touristic areas of Europe. When traveling in the off-season, you can simply rely on the book for last minute reservation while in the area.

I have taken this book to my travel to Andalucia this spring that included visiting cities such as: Malaga, Marbellas, Estepona, Ronda and San Pedro. Guide is small and easy to carry with quick overviews of cities, places to see, hotels to stay in and restaurants to eat at. If you are in the mood for driving (which is not too difficult), you will find a map in the guide as well. Pictures enclosed in the guide will help you decide places of interest you want to see most. The only thing I regret is not having enough time to visit Granada. Food, people, culture and arciteture are worth taking the trip in spite of the weak dollar. The premise of this travel book is that they focus on providing a lot of visual content for people who are more visual learners. But if I was relying on this for my only source of information about Brittany, I would be quite frustrated, as it is very difficult to find anything in this book (versus my Lonely Planet book). A nice book to purchase as a supplement, but don't rely on it as your primary destination guide.

I bought this more for my grandparents and they LOVED it! When they were done with it, they gave it back and I am even more excited to visit Italy now thanks to this book. It is so detailed as far as region and food and wine and points of interest. I realize that I will have to plan to visit Italy more than once to see everything. The pictures and charts and maps are WONDERFUL!!!! I would recommend this book for any one planning on visiting Italy. I will buy other books about other countries from this book line before I travel.

I love the format of this book. Lots of pictures and maps. Flipping through the book you see things that look beautiful, fun, exciting, interesting and tasty. A picture is worth a thousand words, and this short, compact book packs a lot of information. Text is only used to explain concepts and history, while pictures are used to show places to visit, things to do, things to eat, with lines back to their source on an easy to read map. It really is an excellent way to convey this type of information.

I will be making the trip to singapore later this year, and this book will be right there with me.
