Warsaw is a fast developing city and this edition is a bit outdatet now. Otherwise, very good guide-book, just as every other Eyewitness Travel Guide I've used.

I bought this in anticipation of a 10-day holiday in Japan, wanting a basic grasp on a traveler's vocabulary. The first several chapters of this series just struck me as random sentences. While they are grouped into topics (Introductions, Eating & drinking, etc), you just get a few stock sentences ("Do you have any cakes?") but no topical vocabulary lists - so what if I don't want cake, but sushi? I'm putting this aside and buying the Berlitz phrasebook.

I was expecting much more form this otherwise outstanding series. However, the goods end with Athens and the Peloponnese and very little research is done on the rest 2/3 of the country! So 3 stars for the piece. "Northern Greece" is exceptionally disappointing! Take a look at page 233 "The name Macedonia derives from Makednoi, one of the tribes [what tribes?] who first inhabited the region in the late 4th century." Later on... in reference to the Macedonian kings, it says: (p242) "Philip II was from a long line of Macedonian kings that begun in about 640 BC with Perdiccas I." Well... which one is it... late 4th century BC or early 6th BC?" This edition is the negative to the success of the Greek Islands version. I hope a new one will clear up the shame!

I recently purchased this book for a quick trip to Europe. We were staying in Brugge for only 2 days so we wanted to hit the highlights. I found it hard to find books for this area. The size is perfect to carry around and the color maps were great (including street index).

The book only covers the cities mentioned in the title.

Brussels gets 23 pgs, Bruges 15 pgs, Ghent 8 pgs, Antwerp 23 pgs.
There are many pages that cover all of the cities and the book has a "Top 10" theme throughout. "Top 10 Belgian Artists" "Top 10 Beers" "Top 10 Moments in Belgian History" etc. They also have Hotel recommendations and well as general travel tips.

Definitely small - about 8"x4" and 80 pages. And, as mentioned by the earlier reviewers, the print is very small. A map for each district and a couple for the entire city. Thumbnail sketches. Something I want to read - unlike the big books where I never have time to read it all. I keep perusinig this book. It includes a few (after all, how many can we try) restaurants in each district of varying price ranges. There are also details on traveling from the airport. It's clean and crisp which probably makes it easier to read than it otherwise might be. I'll be going to Venice in 10 days and it will fit right in my outside purse pocket. Finally, its price is undercut by no travel guide of which I'm aware.

Over the years, I have been very pleased with travel guides by DK Publishing, but this one was a big let down. We tried several of the recommended restaurants, and they were absolute disappointments. Whoever recommended these restaurants could not have actually tried them, as they consistently reflected poor quality food, service, and hygiene. Unfortunately, the most recent edition of this guidebook available in 2008 was published in 2005, so it was outdated. Several of the recommended restaurants are now closed. This confirms that they were probably not good restaurants in the first place. I wonder if the publisher is paid to put certain restaurants on the list? If I were to compile a list of the "Top Ten" restaurants in my home town, I feel quite certain ... Read More:

Visiting California with one book is no easy task but Eyewitness does a very good job of creating a book that can be used easily. With so much to do the regionalization of California in this book is one of its most useful aspects. Although I wish they would break it into northern and southern California if you are going to be visiting the state this is a great place to start looking.

This map is meant to be an accompaniment to the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide to Paris, and it may be that it works well in that role. (I enjoy the books; I think the series is terrific.) But as a standalone product, I found it an unsatisfactory compromise between the Streetwise series and a "real" Michelin city map. It is larger than the Streetwise series, and shows a bit more of the city, but it is seriously lacking in the detail that comes with the Michelin city map. And if you want to go anywhere beyond the central arrondissments, you're out of luck.

The good aspect of the map is that it is laminated and folds easily, but it's a little too big to carry in a jacket pocket. If you're just looking to guide yourself around the center of town, you're better off ... Read More:
