I am a big fan of the Eyewitness series from DK and own about a dozen of them. I have usually used Eyewitness on many of my trips and used other guides for supplemental information, if at all. I usually walk around with just my camera and the Eyewitness guide.

However, I have just returned from 3+ weeks traveling with another couple through Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro and Slovenia and found this guide to be pretty useless. It soon went into my suitcase and stayed there for the rest of the trip. I write this review in the hope that DK will redo this guide, as they are my favorite guidebook series.

This book came in quite handy on my recent trip to China. I plan to use it again in July 2008. The maps are updated and information all seems to be correct.

I guess I simply don't like the top 10 style compared to the typical style of the Eyewitess Guides. This is just not as well organized or easy to find information in. Plus you miss out on things you may enjoy but are not considered Top 10. The regular Eyewitness Guides are great!

The eyewitness guides are a pleasure to read .Many great pictures and plenty of detail but not as heavy as some guides .I am as pleased with this one as the others I already own .These guides are books you actually pick up and read again after you have completed your trip.

First of all, be warned that this book is a "2006" edition, which probably hasn't been updated since 2000 (see review by Marco). I got the book being aware of the issue, and treated it as a source of ideas of what to do and see around Berlin (it being my first time in the city). In this capacity, I enjoyed the book immensely. It gives great background on Berlin, and supplies plenty of ideas for what places to go to, and what to notice when there.

You just cannot rely on the listed opening hours to build your itineraries, so if you have a place you *must* visit, double-check its hours on the web (example: nowadays Potsdam palaces are open from 10am-6pm April to October, and 10am-5pm Nov to March). Color throughout. Easy to use and keep track of what we saw to reference back to in the future. Great street maps. Has all the famous pizza parlors!! Perfect little guide! Always get theirs and Fodor's.

We recently took a trip to Belgium, where we intended to visit Brugge, Antwerp, and Brussels, although in the end, we dropped Antwerp in favor of spending more time in Brugge. I bought a copy of this book on the advice that it had a lot of coverage beyond Brussels.

Like most EyeWitness guides, the photos, sketched 3D area maps, etc. were all brilliant for identifying points of interest and notable details. The suggested walking tours also proved to be a great resource, since these cities are best visited simply by wandering the streets rather than heading straight for key destinations.

My only qualm with the book is that (as the title suggests) it is heavy on Brussels. This was a little disappointing, having heard that it included adequate coverage ... Read More:

I use this guide for a 4 days Madrid visit. Ive found it most useful in preparation of what to visit and what to eat once I get there. It also give me a lot of background in terms of what to expect for the dining hour, culture, and how to spend my evening.

What I really like about this guide is the map (both the city map and street by street map) attached. I also like how the guide divided Madrid into 4 major areas and how it pinpointed major attraction which ease your pressure if you have little time in your hand (2-2 days). The guide also covers the most basic historical background and interesting fact that you need to know as a tourist.
