This book offers gems of information on the grand and well-known sites, as well as information about places that are off the beaten track. They give detailed information about getting around by car, which is nice for non-winter travel. I do wish they would include more information about traveling by train, such as information about scenic train trips.

While the pocket guide isn't bad, it could be so much better. The worst part? The individual towns are not grouped together. Instead, the guide is broken up into Lodging, Meals, Entertainment with subsections for each town. I constantly found myself looking in the wrong area of the book. The next edition would be better served by having the different towns first, then the Lodging subsections etc.

Also, the maps are just plain awful! The street names are inaccurate, at least for Cabo San Lucas.

Like F. Douglass (FD), I went to Grand Bahama - not during the holidays as FD had - and experienced similar disappointments, having used this book as a guide. When I travel I stick to local cuisine, but not after realizing the author of this guidebook glorified substandard restaurants (as well as attractions). For example, I finally found the "mini crab festival" restaurant that FD wrote about, which was a dark, dingy snackbar. The cook showed me a meat stew that has crab as an ingredient, which is the extent of this "famous" crab festival. I do not recommend purchasing this travel guide, and having had great experiences using Rough Guides and Frommer's, almost swore off Fodor's b/c of this misleading Bahamas issue. We have just returned from our trip to the 3 states and we found the guide helpful, more in the planning than in the actual trip itself. I would suggest this and one of the other guides, like Froemmer, as well as searching the net for options. One negative-the map that is included in not of a scale that is helpful to the driver. Too many missing roads. The maps in the sections, as well as the numbering system for attractions, are a plus. They also left a few note pages in the back, thoughtfully, so you may keep them with the book easily.
