This edition is ripe for update (the information in this guide is more than three years old). The lodging and restaurant profiles are adequate, but dated.

I live near Cusco and have seen new and better accommodations, restaurants and dives open up. When I was in Cusco, in May, 2003, Footprint was there researching the next Cusco edition.

The one constant is the information on the attractions and ruins - timeless. Ben Box is at his best describing and touring the spectacular antiquity of Cusco, Machu Picchu and surrounding areas.

When it comes to profiling tour operators, Ben Box is superb. Especially consider his profiles if you are hiking the Inka Trail or want to see Manu Reserve (only 10 lic. operators). ... Read More:

I took this book with me on my trip to Thailand and I was glad I did. Its tone is much less that of the wannabe-hipster and more of the seasoned realist. To me, that was very fitting for this country in particular.

Much of the subjective criticism within the book was accurate and helpful, such as the honest appraisal of Chiang Mai's night bazaar. Even better were the excellent essays on a the dizzying array of Thai history and culture. They perfectly enhanced what I witnessed firsthand and were not overbearing; I never felt as though I was being spoonfed conclusions.

If you want to just 'get away' for a while, and wonder where's a great spot, perfect to clear out your head, to breath lovely fresh air, swim, eat delicious food, and not always need to pay luxurious prices (although there are such choices), then here's a superb selection from which you can begin to make your choices. This time, should you take off to Tuscany, or Greece, or the desert in Jordan, to Thailand, or to an island off the coast of Africa? A lot of the best places all over the world, for yoga, for pilates, or tai chi or ayurveda, even where to go for a cleansing detox are here. Beautifully written. This is the best snowboard guide book because it's the first edition--everything is up to date, which is super important in snowboard park reviews because things change so much year to year.
Even more importantly, the writers are snowboard industry insiders, so they definitely know where's cool to hang out after shredding. Lots of pro snowboarders comments and tons of cool background info.
