This is more of a book to tuck in your backpack when you're actually IN Bologna and want to get from Point A to Point B. It isn't really a guidebook meant for sitting on your sofa and learning about the history of the town, sighing over wonderful color photos, and daydreaming. If I were leaving tomorrow I would certainly take it with me, but, alas....

I just picked this up and am headed to St Lucia next week (will update after I return). After getting this book, the Insight guide, and the Rough guide (which is anything but rough) I like this best. It's throw-in-your pocket small, chock full of info, and every page I open, I find things I want to do, and enough instruction on how to go about doing it. It has nice maps, and things seem well organized by topic (nice notable for parents- kids section). The top 10 list of things to do peaked my interest: every one of the items sound GREAT. I think this book is more tumed to the active traveller that really wants to get out and see their destination. I gave this 5 stars because it's the best guide I have for getting around, but it is lacking ... Read More:

A guide book to Israel can't ignore the political situation, but it could simply address the realities (it would have been very helpful to know how to dress and behave in certain areas, and it also would help to know which places should be avoided as simply too dangerous or inflammatory). Unfortunately, this guide has a strong anti-Israeli bias, which makes no sense to me. Why is the author living in a place that he disdains so much? It's not as though he is pro-Palestinian - he doesn't seem to like them much either, but he doesn't bash them as frequently or as blatantly.

Anyway, the irritating political commentary is not compensated for by a wealth of information about what is available in Israel for the average tourist. The ... Read More:

This year (Sept/Oct 2007) I spent a month traveling through Brazil. I took three guides: Footprint 5th edition, Lonely Planet and Frommer's. Footprint would have been my first choice, BUT, it has some weak areas that need improvement.

First, what works. The maps in this guide are plentiful, they are easy to use and read. It has excellent full color maps at the front and the back of the guide. Footprint rivals Lonely Plant with it wide sweeping coverage of Brazil. Kudos. If you are going off the beaten path, this is a outstanding guide to take with you.
